So this is kinda a specific question but im sure one of yall who are way more knife knowledgeable than me will know.

Is the tyrade the the only kershaw knife that has that specific pocket clip or is there another kershaw knife

thanks in advance for the help

for those of yall that are curious as to why im asking there is a guy who i have a class and I have noticed this clip in his pocket a couple times, I want to ask him if he would be willing to trade for some knife. I really like the Tyrade but im a poor college kid and its really expensive since its outta production.

That looks like the exact same clip that is on my Storm (1475ST) and Storm II (1470).

Edit:
Now that I looked at them, it is the same pocket clip. And the recurve at the top of the clip (where it screws down) makes me think it was designed for these knives and reused on other knives, like the Tyrade.

As for other knives that use this clip, I'm not sure without doing more research. These are the only three knives that I'm sure use this clip.

thanks for the reply... looks like there wont be a Tyrade in my future :(

Why do you say that? Just because the clip comes on the Storm doesn't mean that it can't be a Tyrade. The best thing to do is ask him about his knife. Start talking knives and he'll probably show you the knife. If it is a Storm, let me know. I might be interested in buying it from him. :)

after looking at pics on google the part of the knife i saw sticking out of his pocket looked exactly like the top of the storm that still born said had the same clip. its was silver metal that i just guess was some kinda special tyrade, now i know it a storm.

The Storm is a nice knife. Sandvik 13C26N, and a large recurved blade. It was the knife that made me fall in love with Kershaw. The Storm II is smaller, but just as useful. I would still see if he is willing to trade... for the right price.

Why no interest in the Storm? The Storm is a monster. It's pretty heavy. The recurve in the blade matches the curves in the handle and it has really nice lines to it. I carried one for several weeks but now carry a blemish Leek. I also carry an 0300, a Skyline, a Leatherman squirt, a Spyderco bug and sometimes a fixed blade [I'm totally serious] so the Storm was too big and heavy when I'm already loaded down with blades. If you weren't a total lunatic knife carrying smart ass (see my embracing the stereotype post) the Storm would be a good large single knife for everyday carry. It is relatively thin and with stainless quite strong. It's a bit heavy compared to a G10 or aluminum handle. I bent my clip a bit to loosen it but it may grip your pocket different than mine. My only minor issue was that I didn't quite love the way it hung when carried tip up but thats a pretty personal nitpick and others may love it. Don't be afraid to try a Storm or another Kershaw and pick up a Tyrade later. There will always be someone wanting to trade up or just wants something different so if you have patience sooner or later you'll have the money saved up and find someone offering the Tyrade again.

Everyone talks up CS, you may just give them a call and they might send you the pocket clip. I plan to do that with their new deep carry clips at some point.

Also, here is the pocket clip image they had on their facebook not too long ago:

Its not that I have no interest in the storm its just that ever since I was given a zt 0200 for my birthday i have fallen in love with the flipper deployment so i wanted something that had that. and after having looked at some pics im not a huge fan of the re-curve shape on the spine of the blade. Dont get me wrong it looks like a good knife i just have Very limited funds so i have to be extremely picky.

Have you considered a Junkyard Dog 2? It sounds like it may have what you want and since it is still in production should be more affordable.

That's a nice collection of information... but it is VERY incomplete. Sad to see that my favorite knives aren't on that list... :'(

I was going to suggest the same thing.

Also, KERSHAWGUY has some really cool JYD Composite blems for a good price $55

that looks like a cool knife and it has caught my eye before but i have a couple questions about it for yall.
first what is going on with that pocket clip? it looks big and like it would be a pain. how is it?
second is it AO?
third how well does that curved handle fit your hand?

thanks for the help guys.

I don't believe the JYD2 is assisted opening. You stated that you were looking for a blade with Speed Safe, and if that's a deal breaker, then this isn't the knife for you.

If your'e looking for a Kershaw knife with a composite Sandvik 14C28N and CPM D-2 blade and with a Speed Safe Deployment system, the Rake (1780CB) may be what you're looking for. The pocket clip is also a little more conservative, as seen on the Skyline (1760), OD-1 (1775), Vapor III (1655), and others.

The rake is a little pricey ($73.00 on Amazon) but it's a very nice knife. I've never owned one, but I've looked into getting one for myself for a long time, and I've only run across good reviews thus far.

As for the handle, it is angled like the JYD2, and maybe more so. Not owning one puts me at a disadvantage on this part. Again, I've only run across good reviews and I imagine it to feel close to the way the Tilt (4001) fits into your hand with its angled handle (which has also received only good reviews).

Ummm.. Clip looks nice with the tip ground out to round. I'm not a fan of the gothic looking clip either. But it works and the turned up tip makes it easy to slide on and off a pocket.
No AO but the flipper is large and easy to flip.
I prefer a larger handle just because I like the way they look and I have largish hands. The JYD fits the natural curve of my palm better and makes fine detail cutting much easier while still being large for big blade tasks.
Hopefully someone else will chime in with more experience with the JYD. I don't carry mine regularly.

Another option that you may want to consider is the Blur.
  • Assisted opening although not a flipper
  • Inexpensive (amazon 420HC model shown)
  • "Similar" to the Tyrade: they could be brothers

Just trying to show more options so you can have a nice carry knife

i have looked at the blur but im really looking for something bigger. like 3.75+ inch blade length

This is off topic, but I thought I would throw it out anyway. I have a couple of the JYDII's and when I put a STR clip on one I ended up with a JYDII pocket clip. Sooo...I decided to "convert" it to a foldover clip. Got the torch out and proceeded to do so. It came out really good....imo...and I will give it to someone if they want it. Just email/VM me your address, and I'll get it in the mail.
