Anybody know why they chose 154cm for the spine, I'm wondering because I know there are less expensive and tougher steels to use(440 series) and also 420J2..seems like its soft enough to make the perfect spine...maybe kershaw thought 154cm would sell better? maybe 154cm fuses better with the D2??? Anybody know the actual reason? Sorry if its been asked before.

One of the key factors is having similar heat treats, since the two parts of the blade are HT'd at the same time. In the case of the Tyrade, I'd suspect that they didn't go with a less expensive steel for the spine since it is a Technology Showpiece and a pretty high end knife.

More info is available in this thread, particularly post #2.

More info about how they are cut is here.

Wow, exactly what I was looking for, thanks! That knife is pretty cool, I hope it stays awhile. Kershaw gets more appealing every year.......

Can anyone post a backside pic of the Tyrade? I would like to see what and where the clip is . Anyone doing a preorder on these?

as much as I love kershaw... that's something that drives me nuts on their web site... no clip side pictures. The other side is equally important.

It's not just Kershaw...For some reason, many knife companies don't want us to see the clip side of their knives. I agree, it is very important that we are able to see the clip side in their catalog photos.

In one of the thread linked, it was mentioned that leftover are recycled. Is it recycled as in send back to factory to remelt and make another sheet, or recycled as in send to local junk yard?
