This U tang integral is forged from the same 1" round bar of 5160 as the Pipe-Hawk in U.B.F. collab #1. The cutting edge is 9" with white-tail antler and pure iron pins, giving an OAL of 14 1/2 ". Distal taper with a median spine thickness of .101".Lots of flex. Now it's of to Chuck Burrows to work his magic and make the sheath, which we've all come to know as works of art.

Dang, I'll bet that involved as much cussin' as it did forging. That's the most unique knife I've seen in quite a while. Nice !

That sure is a different way to attach a handle and I can just imagine the trouble you had. A nice profile and job. Gib

Very neat! I have to agree that's one of the most interesting pieces I've seen in a long time. Very well done.

Vary nice. Great looking tapers too, and file work.
Well Done!

All I did was another cord wrap,
I'll post picts later.

Thanks guys,

I was afraid I would crack the antler from the heat if I burned it in. PITA. I'll try the burn-in method on the next ones. I think I may add a couple of bands of the pure iron wrapped around the tang and put the pins through the bands on the next one. This is the thinnest blade I have ever made in this size. Feels wierd to pick it up. I'm so used to the sharpened barbells I usually make. More to come.

Damn nice piece!!! I'd like to watch you forge Mark. These young pups have to lern from someone :D :D Very cool knife!

You know where I'll be Nov 3-8 :) Or You can make a drive up to Hampton some w/e and I'll put you to work.

Damn...wouldn't you know it would require driving ;). I will try to make the tackrock Hammer In on that Sat. The wife said it would be good for me to go. Ya' think she is tring to get me out of the house??? Just Kidding...Well, maybe not :p

Mark...refresh my dates. Tackrock is Nov 6 & 7 right?

If I go I'll just head down Sat morning and head back that afternoon around 5. I'll stay somewhere in between so I can be with the family most of Sun.

I may bring my burner and see if you can help trouble shoot it......

Very cool, very different. Can't wait to see the complete package.
