Hi

I just picked up a made in the U.S.A. hatchet of 1 1/4 lb. from [a big box store] for less than $20.00. This hatchet is made by Vaughan and is very nicely and properly ground. I received a 20% sales discount.

Welllllll! It is true I purchased the axe for this price and do not receive any economic return for this knowledge. Is there something wrong with sharing the good news when I do not receive any return or expect any return EXCEPT the knowledge that I have helped someone find a utterly good deal.

This axe is a gift to a friend that lives in another country and will be given to her husband as a Christmas gift for when they go camping and hiking.

I always wait for these axes to go on sale at my local store and then purchase(7 of them). No one can fault anyone for sincerely helping people.

Deal spotting is a violation of BF posting rules.

Please do not direct sales to a source which is not a paid Bladeforums dealer or maker.

This is a variation of the "no spam" rules that we have. We know you found a great deal on a Ninja Death Tool 3000 - we don't care. If that dealer wants to advertise on BladeForums.com, encourage them to purchase a Dealer membership here instead of giving them free advertising.

(Of course, eBay isn't going to buy a Dealership here, neither is Amazon or other general sales points not appropriate for advertising.)

A year ago my grandma needed a hatchet for kindling and bought a craftsman ( same hatchet you just bought ) hatchet for 17$, and the steel is pretty decent.
The only issue with it is some denting on the top of the head over the eye, I recently watched a factory tour video of Vaughan and the discounted factory seconds had the same issues I saw with the other stuff I saw on the rack at sears when this hatchet was bought , so I believe Sears was accepting the FS as craftsman tools for a while.
It's still perfectly functional, just ugly.
