U.S. Military requirements

Is there a type of connector required by the U.S. Military for connecting your knife to your backpack or web gear?

if its a kydex sheath you can drill holes in it and weave 550 cord through the holes and then through the molle webbing on the vest or pack. Thats usually what I do.
