Here is an 18 inch, 28 ounce AK made and marked by Durba. It's a 10/10 rig with a handle repair made by Durba himself. You can see where he has filled an area in the horn with some kind Himalayan epoxy. And the karda and chakma are wood handled for some reason. It's ready to go and goes with full HI guarantee.

We will deliver this rig to your door for $95, fifty buck saving.

Call or email if interested.

The kobra went in one minute. I wonder why this one is taking so long? It's by Durba and essentially nothing wrong with it.

I'm tempted but the khuk I ordered arrived yesterday :D

Perhaps if I cashed in a few soft drink containers...

What's that in the top left corner of the bottom picture? Does that mean HI khuks are Microsoft Windows compatible?

Beautiful AK! I like the shape to this one but i need to pay you for the other 18 inch AK by KWNN and the unmarked Malla First!;)

Thanks, Uncle! This will be my first AK. I remember that Yvsa has a high opinion of the 18" AK, how does everybody else like it? I have a GRS by Durba, which is an awesome chopper, so I can't wait to see his work on an AK.

One of the many things I liked about this rig is the mismatched handles. It reminds me of the salt and pepper series 70 Colts with the beadblasted electroless nickle frame and slide and the polished blue parts throughout. They contrast looks good in both instances.

And I can satisfy the woodchuck on the kard and chakma;)

Many of the horn handles, haven't seen one yet without some grain pattern, can also be brought out to reveal beautiful grain lines.

In the Southwestern Desert areas there's a pottery made that's black on black and is my very favorite of all the ndn potteries.
The black horn has very similar patterns as well with some being quite detailed.
And although the horn is pretty highly polished many times there are buffed over grind lines that can be sanded out with patience and then polished to a mirror luster.
Not something I would recommend for a real using khukuri, but for a silver mounted khukuri that isn't going to see much if any use doing a good polish on the horn handle will make the silver stand out even more.
And many times, like the wood grains Walosi and others bring out, the horn will reveal some grains of greys and/or blacks that will or can only be seen by turning the khukuri one way and then another.
Absolutely Stunning!!!!:D

Yvsa: How would you go about the "Horn"chuckery treatment? I won't apply it to this AK, but, as you said, I do have my eyes on others from uncle which are silver mounted ;) A primer on this method would be greatly appreciated for future reference.

I remember from a previous thread that you've sanded or steel wooled horn handles to enhance their grip-a-bility. Do I recall correctly? If so please tell me how you did it. Sorry to be 20 questions, but, like the bank robber in "Dirty Harry", I gots ta know!

Thanks!

Horn newbie,
Craig

P.S. I think I've seen some of the pottery you're talking about, and it is very pleasing to the eye:)

Craig, I love my AK's! I think I have like 8 or nine I think...can't get enough of 'em!! I just bought one of the last Sher made AK's and it is one THICK knife! It's pushen' 1 inch thick! Enjoy!

Thanks, Chris! believe me I'll do my best to enjoy the AK ( I think I will without trying too hard;) :D )

This is probably true about Sher, Uncle, but remember what Betty Davis said, " Too much of a good thing is great!" :D

Thanks all!

I just love to see how these UBDOTDs always find the right home.:) Looks like a good catch, Craig. 28oz is kind of light for an 18" AK, so you might want a heavier one to go with it.:D Seriously, though, I think that could be a really nice weight in the right hands (mine?;)). Enjoy it, Craig! It should be a gem.

Paul

Thanks, Paul! I agree that 28 oz. is on the light side for an AK, but I have a 51 oz. GRS for felling redwoods ( if needs be, of course!) ;) The weight was one of the many things I liked about this rig. My Malla is 24 oz. , so I'm looking forward to an AK that is just a little heavier than the Malla. Lighter long blade with a decent belly will probably take a wicked edge. Durba made my GRS and there has been blood loss in it's handling!

I promise a full report Uncle! There will probably be a delay as I leave for Chicago in the morning for two weeks. :( The things we have to do to fund the viral outbreaks! :) I'll post an evaluation on my weekend home for certain! I'll try to stop by the cantina if I can rustle up access in the windy city.

Who knows I might have to take my Malla to visit Wrigley field. :D

Thanks, and take care

-Craig
