Here is a Gelbu Special that is very well travelled. It came from Nepal to Reno, from Reno to Kuala Lumpur, and back to Reno -- maybe 25,000 miles.

Mohd got this knife and decided to return it and trade it for another. So, it has been used and I noticed a very small flaw on the handle which was overlooked when we shipped to Mohd otherwise the price would have been adjusted downward to compensate for this minor flaw. Sorry, Mohd!

The knife is about 18.5 inches and weighs just a bit over two pounds. The fit and finish are good but not magic stone mirror finish. The hardness is about 58 to 59 Rc where it should be and the edge is just about razor sharp. The chakma shows signs of use which is not a bad sign at all. The karda is quite nice with gray horn handle, fullered blade, and magic stone mirror finish. The scabbard although not done by the sarki with no name is very good and it comes with an early HI superfrog.

Overall this is a very solid knife that has easily 100 years of work left in it.

Because the knife is used and has a slight handle flaw we will deliver it to your door for $95.

It's kinda ironic that I go months without being the first to spot an HI "blue light special," then I'm first two days in a row. When I spotted this one, I immediately reacted, but after claiming it, I realized that just yesterday I had nabbed the daily prize and, not being able to afford two at one time, I had to let this one go -- much to my chagrin! But, anyway, Tom, I'm glad that my lack of funds has helped make you a happy fella.

Tom missed it, Steven. A lurker got it. I am amazed by the number of lurkers we have who email us and jump in on these deals.

I don't know how many people click on this forum. All I know is who posts here but if I go by email I receive that is forum related the lurkers outnumber forumites who post by maybe 10 to 1. How many there are who read, don't email, or post I have no idea. I wish there was someway to tell.

Anyway, hello and thanks to all lurkers!

A 10:1 lurker : poster ratio has always been the conventional wisdom on usenet. Nowadays it is a lot harder to tell than back in the olden days when there were fewer news hosts and a lot more (invasive

) tools for sysadmins to tally their news users. I'm the newsadmin at bsu.edu, but I know that I can't tell anything about how many different people read which groups.

Here at BFC, folks don't even have to register to read, so I don't imagine Mike and Spark could come up with more than the wildest of guesses about how many different individuals are reading a forum. IP addresses are normally reassigned by ISPs and it's just not worth trying to tease numbers out of the logs when you know that they can't reliably show that sort of information anyway.

Still, I don't know of any reason to think things have changed radically. 10:1 is likely to be about right for any forum.
