Here is the first effort of our new kami, Durba. You can see his mark pretty well in the lower pix -- looks like an outline of the flag of Nepal to me. It is a 16 inch silver mounted Ang Khola and weighs in at 1.5 pounds. It looks to be a khukuri that is up to BirGorkha standards and very nicely silver mounted. Fit, finish, hardness all there. Nice bolster but old style traditional buttcap. (he'll learn) Karda and chakma very nicely done and thicker than usual. I like his karda. The scabbard is made and tooled by the sarki with no name and well done with silver chape. Frog is HI 100 year superfrog.

I find one cosmetic flaw on this knife and that's a tiny crack at the cho which is a common flaw but one that never causes any problem.

We will deliver this rig to your door for $100 -- introductory price plus something off for the cosmetic flaw. You get the silver free and you also get the first khukuri to be offered by Durba. I'll find out more about him in the near future. I do know that he brought his helper with him.

Call or email if interested. Nice rig for collectors since it's a number one.

Send a field report on Durba when you get this one.

Hallo Onkel,

no problem with setting my clock on US time, but there is that stupid thing called "work"..., unfortunately, I guess my employer's clock runs on German time

But as long as the UBDOTD isn't something that's longer than 35", I can live with not having the fastest mouse around

Welcome to Durba. Looks like a fine piece.

Uncle, Does he have a "specialty" or trademark khukuri?

Rog

Rog, I don't know anything about Durba. I got in a few khukuris with this new mark and had to ask to whom the mark belonged. They wrote back and said it was Durba's mark and that he brought his own helper with him -- named Indra, I think. I wrote back and asked for a bio on Durba -- nothing so far. I don't know if he is 20 or 100, short, tall, married, single. All I know so far is that he has this mark and makes a good khukuri.

I'll say he knows how to make a knife! This one will have a special place in the collection. I will wait by the mailbox till it gets here.

Maybe if we are lucky he and Kumar, get togehter over a few bottles of chang, and come up with some new and ground breaking designs.

We the forumites wait with baited breath to hear more about this new hire. If you hear anything about Murali, let us know.

Thanks again Uncle

I saw you mentioned a provenece in another post. Just to refresh my memory, that is the 'geneology' of the knife so to speak?

If this is true would it be hard to get one for this knife?

Thanks much.
