Bura made this special order UBE and he showed his stuff. It is perfect as far as I can tell. Fit, finish, hardness, execution can't get any better. The green you see on the blade is the reflection of the leaves on our maple tree. This will give you some idea as to the degree of finish on the blades.

This knife was ordered to come in at 19 inches and one pound and this is exactly what Bura did. The customer who returned this UBE felt the handle was a bit too long for him so I am stuck once again with a special order to sell off at a discount. The day may come when the only special orders we will do is one that has a wood model and deposit.

The karda is made like the big blade and the chakma is Bura's own distinctive style. Scabbard excellently made and tooled by Sarki with no name.

So, if you like light this one of a kind perfect UBE is for you. We will deliver it to your door today for $150 and that is a bargain for this quality of workmanship.

Call or email if interested.

D##N-D##N-D##N!!!

I wanted that!

Gotta agree with Walosi . . . Whaddya want, a gold-plated blade? Who in his right mind would send that back?

I'm going to go sulk, now.

Yea, the guy is nuts! It looks to be fullered like a GS, which is a great idea for the longer ones. Gorgeous! It's just as well it's gone for me though- I can stop quivering, relax, and worry about other priorities.

Did this one, perchance, go to our sainted re-searcher?

Beautiful! To bad he sent it back. Uncle, on special orders when one sends the knife back for a lame reason (handle tad bit to long) and not for a REAL defect you should charge a restocking fee. That might stop this nonsence and the rest of us "old timers" can still place special orders!!!

And, on another note, I can't see anybody griping about paying full price for that knife. It looks to be worth a few more weeks of throwing change in the piggy. I don't think those returned customs are going to lack for a home, if that one's any evidence.

UNCLE,
Am I now an outcast?? As RESEARCHER
why did I not recieve an Email! It was that Koz,he needs something to do other than torment ME!If any Durba's come in, mail me 1ST before posting!!I don't want Koz, Blues, Matt, Vince,Tom, or THAT CRAZY NDN getting them before I do some more tests!AND KEEP THEM AWAY FROM CLIFF!!
jim

I would have taken this,ASAP!! CRAP!! Koz,beat me AGAIN!! IT'S JUST NOT FAIR!!
He's so fast on a comp. no one can beat him, so now to make sure, he uses a phone! We should make a rule that Koz can only be able to bid on a K on a certain day of the month, then see that Bill, POSTS NOTHING ON THAT DAY!!Koz has enough K's , save one or two for us poor "old" slow guys!

I agree with Chris (Sigskag40), Uncle Bill. Everybody knows you offer the best customer service and satisfaction in the world. And everybody here knows that every khukuri you sell is hand-made and a little bit different from every other one. If there were something wrong with the knife it would be different, but the customer specified the overall length and the weight and it came in right on target, which is pretty amazing in itself when it's being made by a guy on the other side of the world who probably can't even read (not that there is anything disgraceful about that) and who certainly would be used to a different system of weights and measures than we use in the US. When the only thing "wrong" with the knife is that the handle is "too long" the customer ought to be prepared to accept a tiny amount of the risk here and pay a restocking fee on this special order.

If you have a special order and you want a specific handle size, send a model. Even if it's crude, you can more easily communicate that way. Otherwise, you take some level of risk. You risk getting a non-standard handle with every HI or other handmade khukuri anyway. That's just the way it is.

This UBE is just too perfect to have to be sold at a loss because the customer underspecified and then didn't like something he didn't say anything about in advance. It's not like the customer would be forced to eat it or anything, but he ought to at least pay enough of a restocking fee to cover some of your extra costs.

What do you all think, folks?

Paul

In mid range length khukuris the kamis figure the handle should be about 1/3 of the total length. In this case the handle came in at 6.5 inches from buttcap to top of bolster and oal was 19. It's about the right size handle for this length.

The customer who ordered this knife is an old and valued customer and I want to keep him that way so I took it back with no argument -- which is what we always do anyway. And, he did offer to pay the difference in the price I sold it for and our agreed upon price but I'll not hold him to that.
