Recently I managed to score an Ubejane for my brother for hunting. It is from 1993 (NIB too :D)

My question is: It is numbered 257. What does this number signify? a limited run? a yearly production number? or overall?

The coating is a little darker than my 2005 Sable III too. what is the Difference between 'kalgard' and GunKote?

PS sorry for the crappy pics.. Used my cell phone.

Oh just to add to how I managed to score the knife (and cheap too!)

Someone put this one as well as a few others (all older years) on Ebay from an estate sale. and get this, he listed them as Chris Reeves. That extra s at the end made it so when you searched for chris reeve they wouldn't come up. I stumbled on them browsing deep in the sporting goods section. I was the only bidder. I think another guy scored a different model as the only bidder too.

that Ubejane was made here in USA after Chris came over from South Africa. When they first re-began to making knives they added the serial numbers to them. Starting from 1 again. And stop doing so around, 1994/95 Oh and to add about the coating, yes the earlier ones are considered Black, not the new blue-ish - grey coat.

Also taking a long shot here but that particular ubejane #257 was bought as a buy it now on ebay about 4 years back! ...is that correct?

Ahhh, I was right, sorry didn't see your bottom paragraph, and I was the other guy! LOL
