I'm just back after couple of days outdoor. This time it was more just outdoor fun, not real adventure or something. However, I've used my newest CRK (Ubejane) quite a lot, and I must say it performed simply great. Well, somehow that is no surprise to me :D I've started my trip by visiting my friend and his wife somewhere in the countryside. And of course with my wife and our "daughter-on-the-way" as you can maybe see ;)

I've had the opportunity to play with my Ubejane (and couple more knives, just BTW) and I have to say that the balance of this knife is really good, much better than I've expected from this relatively short bladed knife.

It's still not that hot during the night in Poland so we've decided to keep the fireplace burning all night. In order to do so I've used my knife to get some kindling for the start... and a nice surprise here! Ubejane's blade buries into dry, relatively hard quite efficiently. It takes just 3-5 easy, almost effortless chops to cut through 1.5" diameter branch. That was pure fun... when the fire started we've switched to heavier logs of wood of course. But the start was mainly thanks to Ubejane :)

We’ve started next day with a short walk through the woods. I’ve tried shoulder carry of my knife in my own kydex rig attached to Maxpedition Condor backpack. Easy way of knife carry I must say… also access to the blade is very, very fast (just in case… you never know).

Food preparation. That’s one of the applications where Ubejane REALLY shines! Cutting the bread was easy task, however the blade was not long enough to slice through it with just one cut. But I don’t mind secondary cut… no issue for me.

Meat… yeah, that’s kind of work that Ubejane likes! My wife told me: “OK, so you have a hunter’s knife? So please, take this 3lbs piece of deer and prepare it for our barbeque, honey”. OK, not an easy task for someone who’s not doing this everyday ;) First I’ve had to clean it as much as possible, than de-bone and of course cut into nice barbeques-sized pieces. Believe me, I’ve never used ANY knife that performed better in this kind of job. NEVER. Ubejane just glides through the meet, cuts cleanly, flawlessly, effortlessly. Juts take a look at these “before” and “after” shots:

I’ve used my knife for many more small jobs during these two days in the countryside. Cutting rope, fruits, wood, etc. And for a working knife Ubejane performed very good. I’d say “excellent” but for some jobs the tip of blade (so also penetration) was not fine enough. OK, I can live with that, you can’t have it all. Anyway, next day I’ve spend on the outdoor shooting range, preparing Field Target airgun event (and taking part in it of course). We’ve started at 8.30 in the morning and it’s taken us 2.5h to prepare for the event. 40 targets, 20 “lanes”, event headquarter, barbeque corner etc. so quite some work. I’ve used my knife for everything. Cutting tape, string, cardboard boxes, plastic bags etc. and even beer opening (with the rear-end of handle with the cap unscrewed) and some barbeque work. However the heaviest work of the day was sharpening some range-sticks, which we’ve used to contour the shooting lanes. Tow of the guys were working with simple hatchets, I was working with Ubejane. That was funny… at first they laughed that these sticks are not matches, and I can forget about knife. After just coupe of chops, when first stick was done, they changed their mind. All in all I’ve sharpened twice as much sticks with Ubejane, as they both did with the hatchets! Yeah, that was most impressive! This knife is compact workhorse when it comes to light/medium chopping.

OK, now shooting itself. Pure fun, and fun only. I’ll not comment my score (well, I’ve ended up somewhere in the middle I guess) but just take a look at the second photo below (I know that even the knife is hardly visible, but anyway) and guess what gear I have my Ubejane attached to? That was very convenient way to carry my knife during the hot day… on the side of Maxpedition Proteus Versipack. It rides well in both kydex and leather sheath on it. Proteus allows to carry mobile phone, spare ammo, bottle of fresh water, multitool, car keys, knife (of course) etc. in a very convenient way. You can sit, walk, run, shoot or whatever you like with free shoulders and your back. It’s especially great when the day is as hot as it was yesterday. That was great day and great FT event, I’ve really enjoyed it. Also I’ve enjoyed my knife… A LOT.

Quite a nice time you had there. Beautiful countryside. Great photos. Lovely family. And that wonderful CRK fixed blade!

I don't know whether to thank you or hate you! I really do enjoy your posts but now I MUST HAVE A UBEJANE!!! Yep, Jeff hit the nail on the head. I have always thought this would make a great knife but was talked out of it several times in the past. No more though. I WILL own one before the end of this summer.

Great work. I get out and do quite a bit in the woods but never have the time to take pic's. After seeing how enjoyable these are to look at and read, maybe I will try to remember to bring the camera.

Thanks so much for taking the time to post. :)

Are the ubejanes availiable now, and how much are they; and whats the blade length? Thanks guys im just full of questions huh. :D

Grand Prairie Knives has at least one in stock. I was drooling all over it last week.

I think the price was $230.00. NIB with the leather sheath.

They also have a nice selection of the others, and a great selection of Sebenzas in all prices.

I have dealt with those people several times. They are good people.
