Ubejane "stage one" (playing with grinder)

Today I've decided to play a bit with one great knife - Chris Reeve Ubejane skinner (am I brave or just... well... :D ). I wanted the cutting performance of Ubejane combined with good penetration of the tip. So I removed the "horn", put a small "MT SOCOM" kind-of-swedge (just to remove remainings of CRK logo, which was mainly on the "horn" section of blade), polished and blued with gun-blue. And made kydex of course. "Stage one" completed. Well, basically this is all I want for a medium size side-knife

I have some plans for "stage two", which also includes recoating of the knife. However, CRK does not offer the re-coating service for modified knives so I need to sandblast it and find some other appropriate coating locally. But that's just cosmetic issue.

So... what do you think?

Very nice Piter!

Personally, I find it looks much better now. That horn has always turned me off. The knife looks more multi-purpose now.

Well, Ubejane (regular) has some very serious advantages... blade control during skinning and chopping abilities. That's all thanks to the horn. I think I need another Ubejane for outdoor and this one will be my working mid-size fixed blade and "dark alley EDC".

I like it. It's almost like you've created a whole new knife. Amazing what a big difference a minor modification to the blade shape makes.

A Rhinoceros without a horn......The WWF are gonna have your hide, sir :D

Your work is faultless and I like it, too. It's a heavy duty general carrier now. I also have carried the Ubejane outdoors and like it for bushcraft as much as skinning (I have tried a few rabbits for the dog). Doing this sort of alteration never entered my mind, but I do admire it.

As much as I own and can use a grinder, I just can't imagine bringing my Makita down on that steel

But well done for trying it....you must get a lot of satisfaction from this piece, now !
