Need to make a steel run.......I wanted to make myself a new camp knife for an upcoming trip. Well all I had on hand in the length I wanted was 3/8in thick 5160! I decided to go for it :) I went with a blade style similar to some of the competition cutters out there. Lots of gentle belly. I took it outside before the sun fully set for a few pics and to chop up some apple wood test branches I saved. The apple got split fast and the knife was cutting into the old board I used to set the branches on. The blade is 9in long and the entire knife is 14 3/8in. I used a full flat grind for the bevels. OD Green G10 was used for the scales. At first I figured I was making a flat hatchet and while heavy, it still feels very usable and knifelike. I am sure the flat grind and six 1/2in holes under the scales helped out. I think it will make a fine user around camp :D

Wow, that's one big mother. Nice! You're going to have to post some action shots from your trip.

This is one 'fat' blade and well made! Reminds me of one of my nearly ancient cleavers that are still ready for action. Even Noss could not break this ueber thick camp blade. I honestly would love to see Bill's knife pitted against a BM. Results would be interesting to say the least. Good job!

Awesome knife Bill! That is going to be a bad ass user for sure.Let me know if you ever do a run of these.I would be in for sure.

My main users now run thick stock like that but with a distal taper to make them balance at choil area. All the strenght and rotational mass without the weight.

Ok so THAT is Awesome  !!

Looks like the perfect companion to this:

:D :D

Gonna bring it the the Great NW Mischief...?!!

That looks great. IMO it's hard to pull off a short clip point and make it look good. You did it better than most. :)
