Still dealing with back problems so got started on a second frontier sheath......
This is UB Forge's second piece and is a companion piece to UBF1 - our pipe hawk.
As the title said it's a work in progress - the hand forged 5160 integral Rifleman's Knife is by the other half of UB Forge, Mark Williams - and it is a delight piece in the hand. Total weight is 7 ounces and just handles beautifully.
In the background are the beginnings of the sheath - the oak tan core with smoke tan flap for attaching the beaded cuff to. On the left is the buffalo rawhide cover which is ready to be partially beaded. Upper right is the basic sketch from which we are working - final piece will be similar but they never come out exactly the same. For a bit of a change - in the center is the red wool trade cloth onto which Linda is beading the cuff. Arrayed across the top of cloth is some of the fooferaw that will be used in the final decoration of the sheath. Rather than having a belt loop this one has a belt slot through which the belt runs over the top of the body of the sheath.
Progress reports will be forthcoming.....
For those who haven't seen the pipe hawk or may not remember it - here's a replay:
