There's a lot of knowledge kicking around in this subforum, so I thought I'd see what the consensus is on this sword. I've had it for more than 25 years, and it's so tired it doesn't have another polish in it (which is why I can afford to own it)-the tsuka was fitted to it, but the saya and tsuba are pretty random, and the habaki is trashed:
The tang is covered on both sides-I translated some of it(ish) years ago using the Yumoto book, but I've forgotten a lot of kanji and it was quite a while ago-i think the date is 1633 but I don't know if that was when it was made or when it was cut down. There is something about "2-1/2" somethings, perhaps the number of bu it was shortened?

There is a parrying nick in the spine (if you use a loupe it looks like there's a tiny piece of the other blade in it) which is kinda cool.
Any thoughts?

It's about 1-1/" shy of being a katana. My thought is that it was cut down when it became illegal for non-samurai to wear the longsword.
