Hello Sal,

Can you give us an update as to the availability of these models?

thanks!!

They are both in Pilot stage. The Paramilitary & Yojimbo both required refinements. I would guess early '04.

By way of apology, I can say that some new models really take a long time to refine and work out the bugs in both manufacturing and ELU useage. This is because we are working on 20 - 25 projects at any given time. Each project gets in line for R&D & Mfg development time at each stage of the process.

The real problem can be found in the "too early" mention of the project. We're trying to be more careful not to do that in recent months.

I'm guessing you wouldn't want to say... but... any chance you could tell us what was changed in the Yojimbo? Just curious as to what kind of changes were necessary.

Handle shape, blade shape, traction groove sizes, lock position?

Thanks :)

Sheldon (M-Purvis) says they're gonna have square holes! :p

He has the inside track on everything, I bet!

Why didn't I think of that earlier?

My square thumb will fit perfectly!

Guess Spyderco's now knocking off my pot-steel Paki folder with the oh-so-fashionable square hole.

Hah... ;)

Paramilitary's are in production now. Should be shipping shortly.

Yojimbo is still being refined. Sorry. I'm the guy they've got to please.

Sounds good to me! Looking forward to it.

Hi Number three. I'm sorry, the para is right hand only, at least the first run.

We tried to make it a 4 way, but I couldn't come up with a single clip design that worked well enough to satisfy me. We'll keep working on it, a 4 way is the best of all worlds, but it was time to "shoot the engineers" and made the darn thing.

As we continue to refine the design, I'm sure we'll eventually find the best clip solution.

Sal,

About two months ago there was a huge thread on this forum about the fact that on the prototype-pictures the name Para-Military was printed on the blade. In the 2004 catalog the blade is sterile. What will be the final looks? Without printing?

Thanks,

Shiden-Kaj

Hi Shiden-Kaj. Yes, that is correct. The thread acutally influenced the model to have no engraving. We'll see how reaction is.

sal

Thanks for the info.

For me the engraving doesn't matter much, I think I'd have liked it both with or without. The best thing is; the Para-Millie IS THERE. I'm really looking forward to having one in my hands.

Not to re-open that discussion, but I really do appreciate that the Para Mil won't say it on the blade. If everything is as I imagine, this is going to be an EDC and if people think I'm nutty for carrying a knife all the time to begin with, having a blade with this particular name on it will only make them avoid me even more. Wait, maybe that's a good thing :)
