Someone asked for closeups of the Udda sword handle I sharked a couple of days ago. I don't normally go for swords, but in this case I'm glad I did. It is a really excellent piece of steel that is not too long. Got more?:)

A real beauty! Thanks for sharing.

I really need to get one of those....

That is so beautifully subtle. I love the quiet yin/yan symbol. Really a marvelous creation.

Congratulations.

Nice pics.

For some reason I look at that blade and think "boar hunt." -- Something you'd want at your side in case the boar got too close while hunting, and something you'd want to carve a giant hunk of boar off the spit after you've roasted it for a while. :)

That handle is a work of art! I don't know how you got those pictures to turn out so well but I'm impressed. Please say you'll bring this one to Blade next year? :)

That really *is* beautiful...I didn't realize before that they have that lovely sweep to them! The handle is exquisite!

Dang...another on my must have list!

All of these HIKV varients are overwhelming...they have gone from really cool rough choppers to art knife.

These are the best of times...

The quality on the latest stuff has been excellent... really top notch.

The yin-yang too... as if it's saying, "Peace, or War- choose thoughtfully"

Nice seeing the markings, too. This one's a beauty. I've a khyber bowie like it with a long false edge, but the quality's not like these. Congrats.

Hdwrlover- did you get a Movie Model a few weeks back? Thoughts?

Ad Astra

I've got to tell you, Hdwrlover - I've wanted an Udda ever since the first one appeared, but that's the one I want most of all. That handle is awesome.

Anyone done an etch of one of these yet?

I might have to pick up an Udda... I've wanted a Khyber for a while, but the ones I had in the past made me leery. An HI quality Khyber-style blade would be ideal.
Beautiful knife you grabbed there!
The Bark River is sweet as well. I never see their big knives like goloks advertised. Where do you get them?

Bark River is very much a specialty knife manufacturer. They have a lot of limited runs, and exposure isn't very widespread. If you want to keep up with all the different BRKT models you need to check out their forum at the other place. That's where Bark River shows and tells.

Guys,

Go to Knifeforums and the Bark River Knife and Tool site under manufacturers. Like the HI and Busse forums here, the BRK&T forum is the most heavily visited there and with many loyal fans. If you like it, join the Collectors Association. Those of you who I met at Blade know that I am a Busse collector as well as a shark in this forum. However, I am also big on Bark River.

The golok was limited production and only about a hundred was produced. I actually didn't get one because I like khuks better for chopping. It would have been good as a collection piece though.

The Northwind sword was also limited production, but as far as I remember, Mike Stewart says that Brigade Quartermasters ordered about a hundred, and the total sold to dealers incl BQ is in the neighborhood of 200. This makes it also collectible.

I just recently started doing business with Mike and BRK&T...there is a pride of craftsmanlike feel to them, sort of like being American Kamis...

The big advantage of course is that you don't have the language problems...;)

Their products are uniformly beautiful and Mike seems like a very nice guy.

A small run, to be profitable, seems to be around a hundred of them from what I've seen. It never hurts to ask nicely though...

.

Mike has made a few runs less than a hundred, like the Pacific Bowie(50 I believe). However, that is because that was on his agenda which is overfull. I think a run of 300 is the minimum for most of the other normal Bark River models. Also, he does many of the Blackjack knives, some special Bark Rivers for A.G. Russell, Knife forums, the Outdoor Magazine Forum, and other knife companies that have special models, etc. etc. Browse the forum and you will learn. It is a busy little shop. I told Mike that maintaining and improving quality is a necessity, especially as prices rise and models proliferate.

I agree...this was originally about the golok...in which a smaller run might be doable. For a more standard knife, 300 sounds right.
