UFC Fighter Dies in Desert

Would you recommend traveling in the dark, since it is cooler? The article does not state how deep in the desert he was. Damn, what a way to go........

His biggest mistake was not preparing properly for the environment. Personally, I don't think he took it seriously enough.

Hey fellas, this subject was brought up before and if you check the link Norcal posted you can see it got a lil heated. He was a good person that many respected, so lets not get into wrong and right.

I don't want things to get ugly around here before the holidays.

Respectfuly,

Tony

I agree with Tonym ,people make fatal choices every day it is to late to offer advice or criticism.

The death has already been discussed, and it's an old story. But this question deserves an answer and some serious discussion:
Would you recommend traveling in the dark, since it is cooler?

Generally, yes. It can be more risky though - I wouldn't climb at night, or attempt a river crossing at night. But if there were a trail or road to follow across the open desert, I would absolutely try to make as many miles as possible during the darkness when the temps are lower.

These types of questions, knowing when to or not to hike at night for example, are answered by using judgment; there are too many variables to give a "yes" or "no" answer to most survival questions. So how to gain the wisdom to make proper judgment? Experience and practice.
