Got the micarta sprint, to go with the carbon fiber one I love.

One I got new has little to no lockup and a rough sharp unfinished flipper tab.

Pics to show what I mean, it's going back. I know it will be taken care of, I just want a good one, and to let QC know.

Yes it looks like it needs some more fit and finish work. That’s a bummer!
When I zoom in it looks like the bearing needs some adjustment. I see a considerable gap there. You might mention that in your note on return. As for the lockup, I don’t see that as to little unless you worked it in some. I think after it is cycled several times it will get better. My vantage pro was like that but it is centered now. The flipper tab is rough and it really does need some finish work. I hope they get it fixed perfect for you!

It's like a mini mountain range inside the flipper! Yeah, with the lockup I also though not such a huge deal, but then the flipper added to the decision to send it back.

I love Buck, so no worries, more than anything I want to just help them catch anymore going out in similar shape.

The lock up looks like it will take care of itself to me but the uneven gap around the pivot and that flipper tab? geesh someone had a bad day on the line. I would send it in for some extra TLC, Buck will do you right for sure.

thick burrs in that flipper inside? or just cut poorly?

Wow the inside of that flipper tab looks "chewed off" for want of a better word.

The lock up looks good. The liner is fully on the blade. We tap test each knife to ensure the lock won't release. The blade however is not right. What you all are seeing on the blade cutout is laser dross (melted material that has formed a burr) that we did not remove when we should have. The gap between the blade and handles looks proper as long as the blade does not have side to side movement.
If you haven't mailed it yet, contact me and I'll send you a pre-paid label. If you have, please send me the tracking # as I want to show that knife to the shop.
I have pulled down your pictures and am emailing them out to start the review of our system.

A huge thank you Jeff! I gave you a call and left my contact information and email adresse on your voicemail.

From my point of view (yea I Kno, nobody gives a shit but I'ma give it anyway:p:D) this is how every situation like this should be carried out. No long drawn out company bashing thread (like ALOT of other places around here) and not a line of bs excuses from said company following the bashing. Just "hey guys something's up ya might wanna check it out" then " yep that's not right gonna see what the issue is and will take care of it."

From what Jeff said I guess removing that slag is done by machine? If that's the case yours might not be the only one that has come off the line that way. I'm 100% sure they would rather know about it then sending more stuff out the door that way.

Yes, I agree. Most cases if someone gets a knife that isnt perfect they want to burn the place to the ground over it. lol. Frustrating to read those stories.

Ya, I've had small issues a couple times nobody's perfect and rather than raise everyones dander about it on a forum, i just contact them and they take care of it. Now, if they didnt and had bad attitudes that would be something different.
But they have always been great to work with and often have gone above and beyond.

How many companies are there in the world where you could note a minor problem on a forum and quickly get a nice response from the Quality Manager of that company?

I'm not expecting to hear of many.

:D

Mr Hubbard is an outstanding manager of quality and warranty for Buck Knives and he makes a very fine moderator as well.
Not only does he resolve the problem but he gives us some insight to the finer details of manufacturing knives and the problems they encounter at the factory. That really helps me to understand the process better and I’m a lot more comfortable buying from Buck because of their commitment to quality and service. You really can’t expect better than that. Tip of the hat @ J Hubbard !

The lock is exactly where I would want it on a new knife,it will wear in and get deeper on the blade with use.I would have de blurred that myself and started using it,I like that knife.

Yeah, I should think that a Dremel or even a small hand file could smooth out the burrs in a few minutes.

Indeed!

awwww shucks.. thank you for the kind words. I love working with you all here and am happy to provide any insights I can.

Those laser dross burrs are very tough as it is melted slag that has hardened. If we run our laser cutting better, there is no slag or blow out. Musta been cut Friday after lunch.. lol
