uglified darkened titanium scales

Has anyone played around with oxidizing titanium to give it a rustic aged look? I’ve included a pic Sean Campbell’s “ugly finish” as an example. I’m curious at trying something similiar, does anyone have any tips on getting this look? I’m guessing you use oxi clean but instead of fully dissolving it you just let chunks of it sit on the titanium. If you’ve done anything like this let’s see some pics.
