I brought this up before, but there wasn't much interest. Anyone think we should do one just for kicks?

I'm ALWAYS up for the challenge. :). We should come up with a prize. We need a sponser. Maybe some knife supplies could be donated to the cause and winner or loser;your call, could get all the goodies. I would throw in a 1 1/2 x 5 hunk of black canvas micarta and a 3/8 x 1 1/2 x 12 piece of brass.

If it's got an ugly 'hawk catagory, I'm a sure winner this year!!

Interesting enough, I found my first ever entry into the ugly knife contest in my yard last month. It had been missing for about a year. :D

Well, you guys get this thing organized and running and I'll throw in a prize of a forge lining kit for the winner!

:)

Okay Guys,

It's an official sticky.

Let's set the deadline for entries by Sep 30th and the judging will be October 1st. Yea, ney ?

All the above is good for me. I'll also throw in something... not sure yet... but it'll be good. My question now is this> Maybe we need to set some rules. How about the following for everyone's perusal?

1. The competing knife must be of a fixed blade design no longer than 18" OAL.
2. The knife must have a handle.
3. The knife must have a real cutting edge.
4. Photos of ugly knife will be sent to _______ for posting and judgement NLT Sept 30th.

Anything else to add?

Who will judge? Should we elect a panel of judges?

Are we supposed to post a pict of a knife we already made or come up with a new design and finish it before the deadline?

Larry

It doesnt have to be a new one . it can be the first one you made for the matter. I will volunteer to be a judge and bow out of the competition. I dont make ugly knives anymore- yea right. Maybe since Don and I have been past winners we should be the judges and the winners of the contest become judges for the next. Whatya think?

I'm in.

should we email the pics to Mark and unveil em at the end of the contest?

That way nobody will get a leg up on the competition.

Hey I'll chip in some goodies to the pot too. :D :D :D

Just post your pics here. If you dont have pic hosting you can e-mail them to me and I'll put them up.

This is coming along very nicely. It's never been so organized before, and I like it!

I would like to volunteer to create the coveted 2004 trophy if needed. Otherwise, I'll toss some goodies into the prize pot.

I think That Mark should be a judge. He is always fair and objective. Mike, I like the idea of a trophy. It says something - a momento. Perhaps we can help you with the materials if you are still willing to make it??

I second the vote for Mark --

Oh, I wouldn't need any help with materials for the trophy -- you weren't expecting it to be pretty did you? ;)

You know what would be cool is for the past and future winners to make a little say nickel sized piece of brass to tack onto the trophy with their touchmark , stamp, logo. How's that sound?

Excellent Idea!

Mike - I'm sure any trophy you make will be excellent. :D

Everyone agree with the rules so far?
