My hardwood dealer sells curly maple at 2.xx a board foot. Its cheaper than Oak. He considers it a trash wood. I don't understand that opinion. Its one of my favorite to use. Anybody have any idea why anyone would consider maple a trash wood????? Especially curly maple. You guys have seen the curly maple I've used. Can you believe its cheaper than ugly assed oak???????

Edited...Oh, I can't see the pics.... I want to.

Aahhh. Finally, thanks Yvsa. Pretty. Is it maple or poplar? Pretty regardless. Nice work.

Aproy the big kitchen, joinery & flooring firms dont want curly maple generaly, it tears out when machine plained & takes longer to get a good finnish. Straigh clear even timber gets top money from the guys who buy numerous lorry loads evry day.

But if you buy "curly" from a craft type wood shop they sell it for more because it looks nicer!

capitalism plays again!

Years ago I used to get 2 ft long clear German beach 2x2 offcuts from a desk manufacturer to whom it was rubbish & sell them to a maker of English windser chairs.

One mans rubbish was another gold.

Yea, when you're in a hurry that tearout is a big problem. For my small shop there is no problem. Plus I've got a few tricks to prevent it from happening. He He.

I think we have the same grandaddy. LOL.
