I washed my Merrell Phaser Peak boots and Keen Newport sandals in the washing machine, and let them air dry. Both are waterproof, yes I did use laundry detergent, and they have faded somewhat. Not bad, doesn't bother me, they are still structurally intact. I was going to waterproof them again. Any thoughts? I have diabetic neuropathy in my feet, but still wear the Keens most of the summer. I've had both pairs of shoes a couple years, and don't want them to wear out because they went through the washing machine.

Can't say about the merrels but I wash my keens about once a month. I use cold water on the gentle setting with detergent and then let them air dry. I've had them almost 2 years now and they still look new.

I wash my 3 pair of Merrells all the time. You can always use some mink oil afterwords if they are leather uppers. Only my Yakota mids are Gortex and they are just fine.

Once warm weather hits, I Iive in my Keens and Teva's. I wash them every few weeks, and so far the Teva's are maybe 10 years old, but starting to de-laminate, and the Keens are at least three years old and in fine shape. I don't put them in the washing machine, but use a medium scrub brush and luke warm water to wash them. The scrub brush is narrow enough with a long handle that I can get all the way inside the Keens. A tiny bit of soap, and some gentle scrubbing, and a good rinse. Seems to work, people can't believe I've had the same Teva's for almost 10 years. But after getting my first pair of Keens the Teva use went down a lot. I LOVE Keens!

Easy does it, and stuff can last a long time.
