i was just wondering you guys opinions on having handheld UHF radios as part of your prep/emergency gear and just general outdoor use , do you think they're worth having around ? I'm going to buy a few for just in case . Some cheap low watt multi packs with only a short range to start with , then one or two 5watt ones.

Just get the good ones to start, you can always program them to the FRS/GMRS channels.

I bought a 2 pack of uniden brand pocket sized UHF cbs to start with. They only have a 3km range but that's enough for hiking with a mate. In two weeks time I'm going to shell out for a 5 watt uniden UHF hand held unit , so if I'm in the bush I maybe able to reach someone with a cb if I'm really up sh*t creek.
