I do not know anything much about the knifes laws all i knows is that its legalt to buy certain knifes that are no more then 3"

I have a lock knife which i brought and i wondered if its legal to carry it for protection? becuase iv been recieving death threats.

If this is not legal then is there anything i can do for protection that is legal becuase i fear for my life.

Non-locking blades of less than 3inches can be carried, however the average copper on the street will still be expecting you to have a good reason for having it anyway, and you are also expected to use common sense - ie there will never be an accepted good reason for taking such a knife to a football match, nightclub, etc. You might be more likely to get away with carrying a Swiss Army Knife or Leatherman as the knife is part of a multitool. Bear in mind that the Leatherman Wave for example has locking blades, so this might be the latest grey area and you don't want to become the test case!

To be perfectly honest, in this country you're better not carrying anything sharp or pointy, if caught it's very much guilty until proven innocent - someone I know was caught with a kitchen knife in his backpack and was done with 'possesion with intent'. It wasn't a combat knife nor was it tucked into his belt ready to use. Believe me I've racked my brains but I don't see any way around it. Perhaps invest in a good quality covert vest instead.
