UK lock knife revised laws?

I recall about 2 months ago an email I was sent regarding a revision of the incredibly dumb law of not being able to carry a folder that locks, just one that doesn't.
It was a proposal I think, stating the obvious fact that a lock is there to protect the user from trapping their fingers between the handle and blade, nothing more.

I was just wondering if anyone else had heard that and know if/when the changes will take place. This is very important to me as I've always carried a locking folder. Most of the time I have what they call "reasonable excuse" due to my job, but to be caught when I've accidently left it clipped to my jeans would be a bummer!

You're not kidding! I can't put into words how dissapointed I am with the government of the UK. They have turned this once fine land into a real living joke!

Hopefully one day I'll be living in the US where I actually have some freedom!

dude
i live in the UK and its not just the writen law its down to weather the bobby on the beat thinks you are allowed, but for the record you can carry any folding knife that is less than 3" as long as it folds in the middle, this is without justification but be smart you dont need a knife to go shopping or the pub and dont carry knives that look nastie the police hate them, moast good knives are of a sensible esthetic apperance but it is something to concider !

p.s. knife laws in britton change back and forth depending on how many people got stabbed by junkies that 5 minuites so be careful, but the > 3" carry law seems to stay constant.

That's very interesting, although I can see that working as we do have the odd decent copper ;)

Does anyone happen to know the penalties for carrying something like a tactical folder or a small fixed blade? I know that if you are caught with a gun in your posession it's a five year minimum stretch but knife laws are very cloudy... I personally don't know if it's a strict law or one that is more relaxed like having race cans on bikes that are not approved for road use.

Thanks Bowser! Unbelievable forum, can't believe I didn't find it before!
You've helped me a LOT there! The blade forums are a seriously good group of topics and people and I have been helped a lot in the past but it's sometimes nice to have a british point of view too!
