So I finally got my UK Pen Knife! It took three weeks to get here (from the UK of all places). I was beginning to think that it was lost in shipping.

This knife has some of the best ergos I have ever felt. Very comfortable. The action is not the smooth action you're used to from Spyderco because of the slipjoint. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

After playing with it for a day I'm finding that I prefer the smooth action of my RitterGrips and other Spydies much better.

I wasn't sure how much I'd like the slipjoint and/or the lack of the lock. I can see the lack of a lock being a nice benifit for many routine cutting jobs. But the heavy resistance of the slipjoint makes closing it in some ways just as difficult as unlocking a normal spyderco (and probably harder than your average axis lock).

It's an incredible knife but I'm not sure how it fits with what I want out of my knives. Sal and Spyderco did a great job. I can now see why it only goes on the other side of the pond.

But to state what many have said: make this exact in a lockback and I'd buy it in a second!

I've read all of the threads here on the UK Pen Knife and I had an open mind, but I'm thinking it's not for me.

Did anyone else play with this knife and have the same reaction?

Put your other knives away for awhile. Let the action break in with EDC use. Tell us what you think in a couple of weeks. :)

I have the Pride and I like it. I'm pretty sure I'd like the UK Penknife. Just ship it to me and I'll take real good care of it. :)

I actually have yet to actually use it!

I'm so used to using a lock and the smooth action associated with that I'm not sure why to bother giving this slipjoint a chance. I like the idea that my knives have locks when I need them and I don't see unlocking as a burden.

I'm being really negative about it, aren't i? Lame!

I'm iffy enough about it that I don't really want to use it so I can sell it unused.

Hmmm.

Maybe I just need more coffee.

The issue of the lock/action has been discussed some here:

I've been using mine for 6 weeks or so, great slicer, good ergos, but I still can't get happy with the bumpy opening action. Lack of a lock is not an issue in terms of use for me, but maybe that's just because I haven't gotten into any knife fights since I've been carrying it (yeah, that's a bad joke). I'll probably end up selling mine, but I'd jump at one with a lock/smooth action.

If not for the lock, the UK penknife would be the ultimate Calypso Jr.

I love this knife. Its been my EDC since I got it. I do miss the lock. I like the deep carry clip. The material upgrade over the Calypso Jr.- G10 and SV30. The good ergos it shares with the Calypso in shape. The back of the blade is an improvement too and the slight increase in belly. This is a great knife.

Sal - how about a US penknife, add the lockback.
