I recently got a UK Pen Knife in trade and I LOVE it! What a great knife! I was expecting a much bigger knife, pretty much assuming by looks that it would more or less be like a slipjoint Military. So, I was pleasantly surprised by the smaller size and I really love it. Two thumbs up!

if you like the ukpk but would like a lock, check out the caly3, basically the same knife but with a back lock. Also, the caly3 is available with carbon fiber scales and ZDP189 blade steel......

I just got my UK Pen Knife recently and it's my EDC now. I love the fact that it doesn't have the lock. So much easier to close and it's nice that it semi locks half way to prevent the blade closing on you. I liked it so much that I bought another. The Caly III is nice but I prefer the UK Pen Knife a lot more.

I think it is an outstanding design. I chose it over the Caly 3 - it's lighter and I prefer S30V. I'm used to non-locking knives since I usually carry a traditional slipjoint, too. It really fits well in my hand. Lately my choices have been the UKPK in town, and the Para when outdoors hiking and backpacking.

I am crazy but, I have a UKPK and a CalyIII. I like the UK's slightly shorter blade shape. When I must have a lock I use the CIII. Of course both are super knives and with either you are well "knife equipped".

I'm also very fond of my UK Pen Knife. I hope someday Spyderco will offer one with the same carbon fiber scales that they are currently using on the latest Caly3. A dressier UKPK.

I can't imagine many common situations for me where a lock would be very desirable. That's why the UKPK is my EDC along with a HDS EDC B42XRGT, a leatherman Micra and a Fisher pen.

I have been looking at the UK for a while, but one question keeps me from getting it...Can you close it easily with one hand?

Just curious, how do you carry these?

I currently share my HDS B42 (modded to U42) in my RFP with a Endura or SAK, was was wanting to get a Caly III (or possibly a Paramilitary). Was just worried that the HDS' HA III andonizing would wear down the G10 scales of the Caly.

I did not know that the design incoprorated a "half-stop." I'm more inclined to get one now. Very cool!

I just push the spine against my leg or anything else that is handy if I want to close it with one hand. It has a good half stop, like a lot of my antique slipjoints.

Because you are working against the backspring, it definitely takes more force to open than other one-hand-opening knives.

Closed fairly easy with one hand. I close/open with fingers only and I have arthritis in my thumb. Go for it!

yep -- very easy to open/close one handed. i have a UKPK and a Caly3 -- both are great knives, near perfect EDC knives for me. if i had to pick only one, i'd go with the UKPK (if you don't mind the non-locking aspect -- i don't). or even better, get the UKPK (PE only) and an SE Caly3!
