Having just looked in this forum the other day I have been slow to realise how many people have Sebenzas on this side of the pond.

This is probably answered else where, but with search down....

What do you guys use as a pivot lube. More to the point where do you get it? Buying Chris Reeve lube all the way from the States seems daft, if there is an acceptable substitute available here.

Thanks

Chris

I use Tuf-Glide from Sentry. It can be ordered easily from www.tool-shop.com without shippig costs in the EU.
I would like some comments on it, because I don't know how good it is compared to the CRK grease.

Just checked the site, and they don't have it any more. :( Only tuf-cloths. Well, there are probably more on-line retailers.

Any type of good gun or knife oil should work fine on your Sebbie's. The bronze washers in the knife are the main ingredient for the smoothness of the knife. If you can get Mil-spec, White Lightening, Rem-oil, or any of the Sentry Solution products, you'll be in business.

Hi all,

Frank Kay of Framar Knives is the UK dealer and I know he has the original CRK grease, because I got some off him last week :) and it's good stuff - nicely packaged in a plastic syringe thingy. I must say it has significantly "eased" my new Sebenza, which was a tad stiff out of the box.

Give him a bell: 01254 264486

In my not inconsiderable experience;) Tuf Glide does not work very well with the Sebenza, don't know why, it just does not!

I use 3 main products to keep it smooth.

1. Finish Line High Teflon White Grease for strip downs.
2. " " Dry Spray for quick action cleaning and blasting. Also good for touch ups and most lube tasks.
3. Militech-1 which is geat as it does not attract lint!

Thanks. I will be checking some of your suggestions out for sure. Like Nigel, my new Seb is a bit on the stiff side.

What fun owning knives is! :D

Both of my current Sebenzas are as yet brand new, having only been played with so far, both open smooth as silk, but, yes, also fairly stiff at the same time, i certainly have several folders that open with less effort. However, i wonder, maybe its a GOOD thing, having fairly significant reisistance in the opening of a folding knife? In fact, to go further, i think i really like the fact that the knife is fairly stiff to open, and yet, is still smooth as silk. Interesting combination. Seems to me, that some makers try to give the impression of smoothness when really, its just a simple lack of resistance, which is not the same thing, and yet, you can have extreme smoothness and still a fair amount of resistance, as in my Sebenzas, and i think i prefer that to a folder that opens with too LITTLE effort. The tightness/stiffness seems to me to be a by-product of how tightly, and well fit together the CR kinves are.

In any case, i put some Tetra Oil in the pivot area and it reduced the stiffness a little, but again, i LIKE at least SOME resistance.

I find that *usually* when my sidekick (seb) is opening a 'lil rough, the ceramic ball rubbing the blade is the cause. A dab ( I use Miltec-1) in it's path will solve the problem. I put it in the detent for good measure.
