I bought this knife specifically to try the steel. I just finished a touch up on the sharpmaker after cutting up a bunch of cardboard. The knife seems fairly easy to bring back to a shaving sharp edge and it held its own I though very nicely. I'm pretty satisfied with my knife. My question is how are you all liking your CTS-BD1 knives? I just like to get a little more feed back, thanks guys.

Yes the detent on mine is solid as well. I'm really liking this steel so I hope you are right Fredde, more knives using this steel. I can't believe more people haven't tried this steel, they should. I think I like it better than 440C.

I bought the drop point in light blue as well as the maroon one with the leaf blade. Honestly, I bought them to give as gifts soon, but also to try before I gave them. Both are nice knives with extreme light weight for the blade size and lovely ergonomics. Because I intend to gift them, I have not cut anything with them so far. Oh, and they're quite affordable. I almost want to keep them just to have the colors.

I thought along with the new steel, the frn UKPKs have a stronger slip joint.... Maybe sal can verify that..

Mine seems fine, I'm not the least worried about it opening in my pocket or anything like that. I really like this knife and for the price its REALLY good. As I said before I'm really liking the steel. The only knife I have with GIN 1 is an old Delica with a G2 blade. I think the newer steel holds an edge better and to me its just as easy to sharpen.

Hi War Eagle,

Carpenter Steel added some small amounts of elements that they've found improves performance in blades. Our testing also shows improvement over Gin 1.

On the springs, we're always changing and improving so springs will be no different. Thickness, heat treat, form, etc. The new split spring is already being put into some of the models.

Sal, thanks and good to know its not all in my head ;). I would actually love to have a Delica in this steel. I know people ask for to many special editions of knives but still it would be cool to try out.
