Due to a medical condition causing extreme weakness and lack of coordination in my hands, I have been EDC’ing my UKPK Spydies exclusively for the past year. They have done very well but I had the itch to find something better. As I searched I found the current UKPK with blue G-10 and flat ground SPY27 blade. At the time they were out of stock so I opted to be notified when they became available. The notice came last week so I ordered one (thanks, Sal for the vet’s discount!). It arrived yesterday and I am sooo happy! It is so much improved over the old ones with their cts-bd1 hollow ground blades and FRN handles. Besides the obvious differences the walk and talk are way better. The detents at half stop and open positions are very solid. Well done, Spyderco crew!

The UKPK doesn't get enough love around here. The first one I bought was a black G10 S30V in 2008, followed by a CF S30V and then two FRN, S110V and Magnacut. I like the pattern a lot. If I had more spending cash these days I would look at getting the Heinnie exclusive red G10 S30V version. I have their S90V red G10 Urban and it is a regular in my rotation. The red G10 looks really nice.

The UKPK G10 versions indeed feel very different in hand, compared to the lightweight FRN ones. More “solid” for want of a better word.

I have one of the original release from 2004 in black G10. I’m now tempted to hunt for this beautiful blue one 😁

That's what I had in my right hand pocket today at work .
Still need to clean the tape glue off it .
Darn great knife !
I was hoping to get a G-10 one for years (I have other FRNs) .

Those who know, know.

I’ve given several FRN BD1 versions as gifts. They’re also excellent IMO. As soon as the Magnacut are restocked @ SFO I will buy a couple for permanent residence in my Kayak/fishing bags for backup knives. Might pick up an extra for more gifting too.
