Just made my first trip to Golden today and picked up 2 of the new UKPK FRN. I must say these are an excellent value, and the FRN is very grippy like the G10 version. (Sorry no pics yet.) Sounds like Gin-1 will do fine on this great-value knife. I'm a huge G10 fan, and I actually like the new texture of this FRN. Also, I really enjoyed seeing some of the art and the 911 display at Spyderco.

Thanks to John and the rest of the staff at Spyderco for being so kind.

Not sure if you saw all the options that the new version comes in, but are any of them FFG? Some of the photos on knifecenter.com have FFG and some are saber grind. Not sure if it a photoshop slipup or how the production version actually is.

I put a 8, 000 grit edge on my Gin 1 UPK tonight and I remember exactly why I liked it back in 91-92, and it became the first stainless steel I'd carry and use daily.

It's good stuff, even in these days of "supersteels" with loads of Moly, Vanadium, and my personal favorite, tungsten.

It's easy to edge, takes a nice polish and gets sharp. The same reasons I like the simple carbon steels.

Wish these newer ones came in the leaf like the older ones.

Seems like a good value cheapie folder.

Mastiff, is the Gin-1 good enough that i don't need to be concerned about bladesteel?

I thought the new version comes in both drop point and leaf blade. Add to it plain, partial serrations and full serrations... and a few colors.

Yep but only the drop points are out so far. The frn leaf blades are supposed to be hollow ground, not ffg like the original g10 ones.
