Ukpk mechanism grinding

So I got my new maroon ukpk, and the inside mechanism is making a weird grinding noise.
It doesnt sound good or something any knife should make and when I open it up I see why.
There are small metal filings and dust everywhere. The 2 parts, blade and the stopper bar have been rubbing together at a very small point making noise and wearing the metal out.

IS THIS NORMAL ?! Will it break in ? Should I do something ?

Addition to post, after opening and applying some teflon spray it seems to be normal.. hope it wont start scraping again

Hi Blackbalsam,

Welcome to our forum.

Sorry for your issue. If it comes back, you should probably send it to us.

The other ukpk I have works fine. But they still do feel kinda different. The "broken" one feels like it has unnecessary recistance. What could cause this ?

Send it all the way to the US ?

We can't tell much without having the piece in our hands. Where are you? Can you send it back to a local dealer from whom it was purchased?

Im in Finland, bought it from an US based seller through mail.

Dont really want to send it that far.. Was simply looking for easy fixes

Well it had factory oil still in it, reassembling and oiling it again helped a bit. But the two, apparently identical knives, steel feel different on the insides..

Ill open them side to side next to see whats scraping on what, ill post it here..

i have a blue UKPK which had the cutting edge of the blade striking the back spring when it snapped closed. I sent it in to Spyderco for repair. They fixed it - no questions asked. Since then, it is one of my favorite pocket knives for EDC. For me, the design of the knife is perfect for my light EDC use. i have since bought several other Spydercos as I know they stand behind their products.
