UKPK Steel Choice

I'm going on a 2023 holiday in the UK and (of course) I need a new knife! The obvious choice is a UKPK! However, I am torn trying to decide what flavor to buy. BD1N?, S110V?, LC200N? What do y'all think?

Of course you need to know more about me.

I'm an office drone, and do office drone things with my knives. No hard work.

I live in the desert, so corrosion isn't a problem even with my 1095 knives.

For food prep, I travel with a small fixed blade (and a cheap cutting board), so food prep isn't really an issue.

I like 3" or smaller Spydercos.
Favorite - Sage 5 Lightweight in S30V
2nd - Para 3 Lightweight in BD1N (but I am willing to upgrade the steel)

Love the compression lock (smooth, safe and flick-able)

I've also got
DF2 in VG10
DF2 in K390
DF2 in H1 (Hawkbill)
Delica-4 in VG10
Chaparral in CTS XHP (as if it came in any other)
Ladybug in VG10
Roadie in N690co (as if it came in any other)

Sharpener - KME with Diamonds.

Yes, the Roadie is coming to the UK as well, but since it isn't 1-hand opening (and a bit small) it wants a bigger brother to go with him.

So, what are your thoughts? BD1N?, S110V?, LC200N?

Thanks in advance

CC

I would probably go with the least expensive one, you already know how Bd1n performs. I wouldn’t spend the coin on S110 unless it’s a hard use knife and since you live in the desert Lc200n is pointless just my thoughts

I’d go with the LC200N.
It’s nice having a knife that you don’t have to worry about corrosion. At all. Ever.
I kinda favor the aesthetics of the drop point though.

That said, I don’t think any of the choices are bad. The UKPK is an awesome knife. I’ve had a few pass through my hands, but I wound up gifting them.

ide go with S110v.

Blurple is less intimidating

Youll need to sharpen less

Just got back from a week of elk hunting and the UKPK was my one hander utility knife everyday, packages (bought some new fishing gear on the way out), food prep, everything but cleaning elk. Then I ripped a few cardboard boxes on my way out the door this morning because its trash day. Still sharp. It is a plain knife, but a very good knife.

It is not the desert (where you live) that should dictate your blade choice, but where you are going, and UK is pretty moist. I imagine any good SS will be fine but if you are really paranoid, then a dendritic cobalt blade would be best. If it were me, S90V would be fine.

K390? Really? Show me a K390 UK PK for sale!

S30V? I'm only interested in a current "for sale" knife. I don't want to pay the upcharge for an "out of production" blade on the secondary market.

Yes, S30V. Drop point is still in stock. You may even be able to pick one up in person while on holiday..

For that S30V with red G10 scales, remember that the initial price you see on their website probably includes VAT. Once you put your US address in, the price looks a lot better. And shipping to the US is quite reasonable.

OOoo... when I previously checked the HH web site... it wasn't listed.

I'm thinking between S30V and LC200N I'd take the LC200N. I actually prefer the FRN to the G10 scales, and although I am not fond of the green color... I could always Rit Dye them.

Bit of an old thread but hey why not put in my thoughts.

Personally, it would be a tough call between the S110V and LC200N. The S110V looks nicer to my eye with its blue FRN and silver hardware. I'd probably personally go with S110V, but I'm a steel nerd and S110V is neat stuff.

The G10/S30V version looks really neat, but I've not tried it so can't comment.

Thanks for the input y'all.

Well... I decided. I got delivery of my S110V UKPK and I LOVE IT. It will never be my favorite (currently that is a Sage-5 LW), but for the special case of being able to carry a GOOD, one-hand opening LEGAL non-locking Spyderco while on travel? PERFECT.

The texture on the scales is going to take a little getting used to. I am more used to the substantially more aggressive texture of the Para 3 or Sage 5 LW.

I really like the way the outer face of the back spring stays flush when the knife is being opened or closed. Love the refined blade to handle interface with no "Delica Notch".

I got myself a Subway Bowie to satisfy my LC200N itch...
