My insurance company wants me to purchase a UL listed flammable storage cabinet for my shop. Seems like a good idea, but i am having a heck of a time locating one. Everything that i find says this "meets OSHA 29 CFR 1910.106 and NFPA Code 30" but is not UL approved. Has anyone else dealt with this?

It will cost you $
The smaller the cheaper, try to limit your on site storage quantities.

I believe that UL ratings are more consumer related, and OSHA and NFPA are more industry related.
and UL testing costs $

They do list that some are UL rated

Try contacting their tech or customer service to get the answers if you can't find them on their website.

.
and those flammable liquid cans are next- those aren't cheap either

I just went through this with the fire department inspections at the high school I teach at. We can have up to 10 gallons of flammable liquids outside of the proper storage cabinet. I'm told the cabinets are big bucks, so I've been down sizing the quantities we have around the place so as to fit in the existing cabinet. Initially 10 gallons sounds like a lot, but it isn't when it comes to gasolines, oils, solvents, paints, etc. Every container is counted as full too, so a slightly filled gallon can is still a gallon. Not sure about insurance regs. I'm with you, sounds like a good idea, but it's not so easy to implement. Good luck!

Phil and Count,

Thanks for the info. I am going to email the link that Count posted to the insurance agent and make them bless the specs before i purchase one.
