I know that a knife is worth is whatever someone will pay for it, but after seeing what someone just payed for one of these on ebay compared to what I payed for mine, I had to ask about it. Maybe the 1046 is worth more than I thought. Thanks to tongueriver for the info., I know that they were only made from '76 to '79. Does that fact make them worth 97 bucks for a roached one with damaged, shrunken handles and scratched up blades with no sign left of the BSA blade etch? I don't ask what a knife is worth hardly ever because I know what I'm willing to pay and what I can afford. Are these 1970s Ulster BSAs that collectable and did I really get that great of a deal on mine for only $21.06, delivered? I haven't taken new pictures of it since I cleaned alot of the discoloration off of the blades. I'm still working on it and trying to maintain the original 'mirror' polish and blade etch and still get the tarnish off. I guess I'm asking, what do I have here and was somebody nuts to pay that much for one that is not half the knife mine is? Regardless, this is a really neat BSA knife and I like it because it doesn't have a clevis/shackle and has a phillips screwdriver.

Sometimes one can find pre-war scout knives in decent shape with bone handles for $100 or less. The buyer in the case which you mentioned may have had some operator error.

Yes, I have been looking over some of those nice old bone handled scout and military knives. My interests in Schrades and Ulsters is so varied and widespread right now that I haven't entered into that part of collecting yet because I'm tapped out financially trying to keep up with what I'm coming across for sale in other areas of interest. Well, that and I got outbid a couple of times. I just thought that I might have something more than I thought in the 1046 since I saw another go for such a high price. It's not the first time I have seen something on ebay that made me ask, 'what was he thinking!'. Actually, I have asked myself that a few times after I won an auction too...........

I'm done working on the 1046 today so I tried to take some pictures of it. As soon as I started setting up, the sun went away and then the auto focus on my crappy camera started failing...AGAIN. But, oh well, here's a couple of the best ones. I'm trying some new stuff that works great called Blue Magic metal polishing cream. I saw it in an old Schrade knife care kit and found it at the auto parts store. It did just what I wanted it to do on that discolored blade. No abrasives and the active ingredient is ammonia.

Very nice.

I would love to get my mitts on a nice bone scout pattern.

I have one with clamshell/swinden key handles.

You and me both. I missed out on a couple of real nice ones recently cuz I was too cheap. I'm kicking myself because they didn't go for that much at the end of the auction. GRRR!
