I'm not much of a folding knife collector yet
I still prefer fixed blades..call me old school
I found these at a thrift shop today
Can you guys enlighten me a little?
I looked on the "Collectors of Schrades" page and the Ulster looks like a 50OT???
The Walden looks like a 34OT but with "tan" handles??
Thanks all
I posted here 1st....BRL needs a little "off time" from Trent's cutlery inquiries I figure
(I did a cursory search for "ulster" and it came back with like 20 pages of results..I looked at a few...Ssorry if this is a rehashed topic...the BF search function isn't actually a pillar of efficiency either)

***UPDATE***
I found IRV's "article"/post on Price Albert knives
Looks like I got a 114OT-Reynolds
What do you think this is worth??..I couldn't find any past auction results for any with the can openers/"camper" model on EBAY

The tan Walden does have 34OT stamped on the tang
Not sure about the tan handle
I guess the brown could have worn off...there are hardly any "ridges" left

I own one of those, Old Timer on the outside but with an Ulster blade The story I heard is that Old Timer bought Ulster and used some of the blades that were left in the Ulster stock. That could be B.S but it's a good story!!

Albert Baer bought Ulster in early 1941. In 1946 he bought Schrade Cutlery Company and renamed it Schrade Walden. Ulster owned Schrade Walden and the Schrade factory in Walden New York was combined with the Ulster factory in Ellenville, New York in 1958. Bothe brandings continued to be produced in the same factory until circa 1972/73 when the name of Ulster Knife Company was changed to Schrade Cutlery Corporation. Ulster then simply became a trademarked branding of Schrade.

The 34OT looks to me as if the handle dye and texture has been buffed or otherwise worn off. Schrade Walden knives predate circa 1973 and are uncommon to find these days.

The other knife is correct for a 114OT which was a special run for the Prince Albert Tobacco promotion. There were three Ulster tanged, Old Timer shielded knives offered. Camel Cigarettes had an offer for an Old Timer knife at the same time. Here is the story of the early Old Timer promotion which had been an ongoing mystery to collectors until explored by Dennis Ellingsen and published in the Oregon Knife Collector's Magazine in 2002:

The camp utility knife was initially misidentified. And the complete story finally came out due to the efforts of Larry Vickery in 2006:

Nice finds!

I think Ol' Codger and IRV are working on a made-for-tv screen play "The Two Old Timers" ;)====>http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=439424&highlight=prince+albert

114OT====>http://www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us/articles/Ulster.pdf

Based on the # of email offers I have received for this I think it's definitely worth more than what I paid for:thumbup:
Some chump kid "JEFFERY HOFFMASTER '74" engraved his name on the spine!!!

Thanks for clearing that up Michael, I tried to search the forum for the right info but I was seaching for "Albert Bear" instead of "Albert Baer" and couldn't figure out why I was not coming up with anything.

Yeah, Baer is of course the German spelling of Bear, thus all of the Schrade patterns with "BEAR" in the name and the bear head pommel knives.
