A past president of a famous knife company bought the Ulster factory collection many years ago, and recently sold it, along with some amazing Camillus knives. I was lucky enough to get my grubby paws on a few of the some 3000 knives in the collection! 5 to be exact, which blew my knife budget for some time to come!!
A fine Harness Jack, and 4 Barlows, all from Ulster.
The Harness Jack has a wonderful Etch on the blade, reflecting the pride that Dwight Divine took in his products.
All five knives have the pattern number inked on the main blade. Some seem to have a price.
On the HJ, the punch has a generous "rollover" that makes up the pull, and guides the cut into a circle. It is very like a New York Knife Co patent punch, and was likely made after NYK's patent expired (after 17 years). The bolster was finished in the western* fashion, lengthwise on the sanding and buffing wheels.
The Barlow bolsters are finished in the eastern** fashion, crosswise on the wheels.
It was extremely lucky to find all four Main Barlow blades! I don't know if they did a Spey, or not. The one-handed blade seems to be a model for GEC's. It has a nice sharp hook and works well.
Enjoy please, and post your Ulsters, and, any information about them you may have!!
*western equals New York, PA and environs.
**eastern refers to New England areas.
