Assuming this is one of the PA tobacco can promo 50 OT's with no model number stamped on the tang, is it common to see the shield upside down. Thanks for the time

Looks like a 5OT to me. Mine has no model number on the tang stamp either:

Your's is the first 5OT I've seen with that error. But I wonder if it's a factory error, or a previous owner's repair? Either way, I doubt it adds to the knife's value.

Best Wishes, and thanks for sharing your photo.

We did a story on this knife a while ago.
The 50 OT is a 2 bladed folder that followed the 58OT by 1 year and was produced for 1 or 2 years at most.
The 10OT and 12OT ULSTERS were Barlow paterns and both had 2 blades.
The camper below is a 114 pattern. Although I have not found the info on the OT number Ulster called it, it was mis-identified in the article written about Prince ALbert tabacco as the 50. Im betting it was the 114OT.
Dale just received a 50OT I'll post a picture of it. I have a copy of the Ulster flyers with the 58,50,12 and 14 OT Ulsters at
www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us
Follow the Ulster links.

Since Larry posted a link to a pic of the mark side of this knife above, I won't post it again. I will post a pic of the rear. It has great example of saw cut bone. This bone looks so much like the saw cut delrin that I took it out of the package and looked at it for a minute before I realized it was bone. It looks so much like the delrin Old Timers that they could have used this knife as the example to follow for the color of the Old Timer scales.

Larry is a true gentleman. He bid on this before he noticed that I had a bid on it. He sent me an email apologizing and stopped bidding. Thank you Larry, you are a gentleman & a scholar!

I asked LT about this one and he said Ulster made a few rare Old Timer patterns & he thought this one was made for a very short period before Schrade took over.

This knife is not prefect, there is a crack in the bone at the rear pin & a crack above the shield. There is a couple scratches on the back of the clip blade also. Other than that I don't think this knife has been carried or sharpened. It does have a little rust spotting on it. It is nice to find an old knife like this & hold a piece of history in one's hand.

It's in remarkable condition, cracks or not Dale. And it does look like the model for the delrin handles! Very cool!
The cracks certainly are not distracting. It's the rareness and great color, and the fact that it looks unsharpened that make that knife an exceptional piece. You can see what the designer and maker intended!

Here is another picture of the liners on this 50OT.
Sorry I didn't post it earlier.

Great 861, Charlie!

I love those...(but not at that price  ) but well worth it never-the-less.

I'm jealous. If I can't get ones like that, I'm glad someone like yourself did...
