Some questions about Ulster. What patterns of Old Timer were made by Ulster, and what were the years of production? I appreciate the replies in advance.

58OT -1960 1971 3blades
50OT 1961-1962 2blades
10OT 1963-1969? 2 bladed barlow
12OT 1963-1965? 2 bladed barlow
114OT? -? Camper (under discussion)

Difference between the Ulster OT's and their standard numbered knives were that the OT had a brass liner where the others where steel.

Larry,
Here are the ones I have:

10OT on the top left. OLD TIMER/BARLOW is stamped on the Bolster. Tang stamp is ULSTER/USA/10OT.

50OT on the top right. This one has bone scales and does not have a number stamped on it. The liners have been worked. OLD TIMER shield & tang stamp of ULSTER/USA.

The two in the middle are 58OTs. Both are Tang stamped ULSTER/USA/58OT. The light brown one with the diamond shield and the DE (Diamond Edge) in it, is a shell handle. The one on the right has the Delrin scales and the OLD TIMER shield.

The bottom one had the OLD TIMER shield and the tang stamp is ULSTER/U.S.A. This is the one I think is the 114OT. What do you think Larry?

Dale,

Looks correct.
We just need to document the camper. It is the 114 pattern just no factory documentation to date. There is a 114ss (stainless) too.
The DE is the other odd one. But them being Schrade we could expect anything. Watch for a bone handled 114SS with gold liners... :D

P.S.
The only other 58 pattern I have found documented is a 58G done in 1957
no pictures just the pricelist.

Is the 58OT and 50OT pattern a little smaller than an 897UH or 61OT, more the size of an 834UH or 34OT?

With this 50 OT / 114 OT change-up, I'm going to have to re-write my list, again.

Collectors-of-schrades-r.us still lists the camper as "50 OT"...

Anyway, here are mine:
UlsterOldTimers2.jpg

Top to bottom: 10 OT Barlow, 58 OT, Camper*

* I'm going to refer to this model as simply "Camper" until someone can come up with a written reference for "114 OT".

Bob,
I have been in contact with Dennis the author of the P/A article where he stated the camper is the 50OT. We are both researching the issue and as often happens with history things come to light that cause it to be re-defined. I won't pull Dennis article because it also shows the care and steps he went through putting the information together for us. I think I pulled down my picture where I had the camper labeled a 50OT, but will look again.
I agree that we should call it the "Camper" until we find something in writing.

It would take a little research, but I believe the Ulster 10 OT Old Timers were just delrin. I believe there were bone versions of the same pattern, but not marked as Old Timers on the bolster.

Delrin is all I've seen.
Check Dennis' original and my later article on the web site re these P/A knives. Dennis published mine in his monthly.

Has this riddle been solved. My camp knife only says Ulster on the tang and does not have 50OT or 114OT. I’m curious to know if I own a complete set of the P/A promotional knives or if I’m still on the hunt for a 50OT. Can anyone tell me how to tell the difference?
