What would be the ultimate 300 series blade configuration?

I think mine would be a 3.5 inch closed knife with a clip point main blade + wharncliff + cap lifter / flathead screw driver. Maybe throw an awl / punch in there too. Thoughts?

I would be all in a Whittler also. Would like to se one with scissors like the old Clipper series also. Use all the old colored Delrin like the Clippers and I would buy 2 of each.

My first Buck 300 series was the BG42 BCCI club 301 and even today I consider it to be the ultimate 300 series knife..
Surprisingly useful for any cutting task I had never in my adult life bought and used a regular pocket knife..always a single lock blade. Besides a 298 in 154CM its the only super steel knives of any brand I have actually used. What I like most about the 301 is that I have the option of using a pristine
very sharp blade for tasks that require it ..

Buck would need to build a 334 Trapper or 317 for me to place a order. Those are the slip joints I am interested in. DM

For me something similar to what the forum knife will be. My idea 300 knife would be a 301 or 307 3 blade, flat ground long pull stockman. That would make me retire my other knives. Who knows the forum knife might make me retire them but doubtful. I just really like three bladed stockmans. I think its just because its what I grew up with.

The 302 Solitaire is my current love. The upcoming Forum knife will be awesome.

But this would take the cake :D

Check your PM's

Thanks a million, I appreciate it.

OLd sent me a link to the Bass Pro Buck Whittler. They're like the 310 that SMKW sold a few years ago, three backsprings, so not a true whittler.

See, I'm being picky! :D

I prefer my case trapper hoof pick over the crosslock pick simply because I'm more traditional.

Several years ago, I owned a Moore Maker trapper hoof pick. Pick was way too pointy/sharp for around the frog. Ended up selling it. I like the looks of the Buck hoof pick with its squared off end.

Whoa there, before you saddle up and ride all the way into to town to the ole hardware store. BuckShack, or someone, has photoshoped a single blade 302 with pick and screwdriver. Buck has never made one. But.....
If you really want one, 1. Someone talk to one of the Buck folks (Joe or Jeff) at the upcoming meeting in Idaho about offering one. Joe might make a small run with some nice western type scales, but everything has its costs. 2. Talk to one of the well known knife modifiers to make you one. 3. Talk to SK or C an C about doing a run. They will have to make a profit, but it will be a genuine Buck made knife.........Or try yourself.

You get a 301 with a good clip blade. You measure out the blade well to see how long a pick you can have and not rub too much spring surface, or in other words how much pick back you are willing to have stick up above the other blades backs. You go to a knife makers parts supplier such as Jantz supply ( or many others) and see if they have anything that would work to fit , don't do this after you punch out bolster pins (plan ahead). Guess you could custom grind one also.

So, you see the photo is going to take some thinking no matter who tries to make one. The screw driver should be a walk in the park. Good Luck if you go for it.

Thanks 300. I knew BuckShack's photo was photoshopped. The pick he used looks much more gentle than the Moore Maker sharp point hook, as seen in the photo below. Being that MM caters to horse people, I was surprised the hook was so severe.

I knew also. By the looks of the pick its from the case trapper.

Wow, I wouldn't put that mm anywhere around a hoof...

It's not that bad. Just round the tip some, 3 mins. on a stone. I would likely leave it like it is and round it with use. DM
