That UF is singing....I don't even have one yet.:oops::oops:

If still there tomorrow, I just might have to bring it home to me.

I had one for a bit, they do sing. You best go for it Cul. You don't have one, that has to be worth something in your plea to the missus.

And George, where have you been, you been awol for quite a spell.

Guys, I’ve been watching faithfully. I’ve not seen anything that I don’t have. I guess some of the fever broke. Been on a gun adventure lately....my first love.

I love the Kumar UF. It’s some lighter and different from Purnas. I go back and forth on which one I like best.?!

Can someone tell me if the edge on a UF is similar to the edge on an AK? Would it be a good chopper?
Thanks

The ultimate fighter will definitely cut wood very good. However the edge is probably not as thick as an Ak's.

I've noticed that some of the more recent Ultimate Fighters have a slightly different profile than the earlier versions. The difference is in the shape of the sharpened top swedge, which is curved in the older UFs and straight in the newer ones. Compare the pictures above with this one, which is typical of older UFs:

This is not an exception. I have an older UF and have seen pictures of others where the swedge is curved, approximately following the curve of the main edge.

Personally I like the newer version a little better, only because it looks more like a regular khukuri, but it is certainly a matter of individual taste. It could be argued that the older shape would be better for back-cuts (like a traditional western bowie knife). However, with a blade as heavy as this it seems unlikely that a back-cut would be practical for most people (unless you're Andre the Giant, and then you wouldn't need a knife). Not to mention that actual knife fights are mostly obsolete in this era of automatic weapons, helicopters, etc.

I haven't tried chopping with my present or previous UF, but I think it would (a) chop well, but (b) not as well as an AK, B0necutter or WWII of comparable size. The latter blades are all forged with slightly concave sides, so that when the main edge bites deeply the sides will not get stuck in the wood. The two UFs that I have owned have very flat sides, which might resist a deep cut into wood. (The one posted by Yangdu today might have concave sides -- see her second photo above -- but it's hard to tell for sure.)

I like my UF and it's a great addition to a collection, but for a knife that can do everything from chopping to self defense to camp chores I would choose a WWII or a Gelbu Special. The sharpened swedge on the UF has its downside if the knife is going to be used for a lot of chopping. The swedge can be accident prone, and in many areas double-edged blades are illegal or viewed with suspicion by law enforcement.

+1 Love my Gelbu Special!

Even handling and admiring the UF, one must never forget that sharp top swedge. I nearly got myself on more than one occasion. Totally my fault of course.
One just must always respect it. That being said I'll of course get another one, one of these days.

I mean Cul don't got one so it's ok if I don't got one at least for a little while. If I got one before him that would be kind of sweet but it would be sweet for him if he got one first so it's happy dance time for anybody really. Everybody needs one right?

Looks like you got a real gem! The UF is an awesome model. Just like the Tiger Killer that popped up the other day! I love the Tiger Killer and Yeti Hunter too ;) Rare beauties... Hmm.. I'd like to see more Kaanchi Kami knives.
