No, you didn't miss a DOTD. I just emailed Yangdu and asked if she had something in between my 12"/ 14oz siru and the 15"/ 24oz AK. She had a 13"/ 21oz Ultimate Fighter by Vim. It arrived yesterday. Gone is the triangular box, replaced by the new flat rate boxes. Open it up, get past the packing peanuts, viola (sic?) (vwa la, not vee oh la). Sheath is more like the straight blades than a khuk scabbard. No frog, no karda or chakma. It's a two strap, partial front break affair. Decorative snaps are a nice touch. Pull out the blade.

Holy crow, this thing is a monster. Full sized handle, very nicely shaped, great color, full tang w/ three pins. Thick blade, I mean thick. 7/16" at the spine. The same as my 18" WWII. It's noticeably heavier in the hand than the little siru but more neutral in balance than the AK. No chance to take pics or give it a workout. But this thing inspires confidence. Like a 2/3 size UBE. In a word, awesome. Hat's off to Vim and Yangdu.

Good stuff and thanks.

Thanks Karda, I still suffer from the virus I just can't afford regular treatments. I'll have to post more and lurk less.

The only thing folks need to remember about these is that double edged blades aren't legal in all states...

Or countries and they are too nice to give to the customs guys when they get seized and "destroyed", read taken home.
