Which Khuk is the ultimate fighting Khuk to you and why? I know some of the old time favorites will show up like 18" GS, M43, Malla, etc. but I've seen some new names coming up like the Foxy Folly. What about some of the new models like the Samsher, Jange, etc.? What about model you have that is a little atypical of the spec? What about a model that really rocks that might not be an HI but might be a good HI special project possiblilty? I know one of the competetors has several models that I would love to see HI take a stab at making.

The khuks here at home chop wood and take hikes. If a Cougar ever attacked, I like the weight of a wood chopping khuk. You know, 28 ounces.

The Martial arts boys will be here and probably weigh in for the lighter, faster khuks. Sirupates, Chitlangis, the new Sher Special, Mallas, Gelbu Special.. The Kobra is among the lightest, the WWll among the heaviest.

The WWll is used by many Bando experts. It's an all around use khuk, and is well balanced.

I love khukuris so much, that even if I were a martial artist, I don't think I could choose just one.

They are all good for fighting.
There is no ultimate fighting khukuri.
If it will chop wood, it will chop leg.

What's important is training and being able to move your body properly.

A malla. Pointy as hell. Stabs really good. Fast but still heavy enough to parry a strong blow.

If the posters would also provide the weight of their 'favorites', it might give tell us something. I'm curious to see if 'lighter is better' to folks.

Spectre, how much does that 21" Chit weigh?

Danny, sounds right to me.
There are people who own a lot of guns and say they can't shoot unless the trigger is 3 lbs. I always thought that was strange.

There is no single answer.

The one that sings to you.

The one that sings with you.

As Danny notes too, others will do. But one is special for you.

Is this the WWII of today. The pictures of the older WWII models don't quite look the same. Seems they look a little pointier and shaped different.

There's a little kid I've known for a few years.

Well, not so little now. He's getting ready to join the Marine Corps in a few months. I figure I'll show him a variety of khuks and see what sings to him.

Then I'll set him up with what he needs for his deployment.

I have to say that I really like the chainpuris for a lighter khuk, more than I like the kobra (I own both, and sirupatis to boot). That said, I think I would like a 16-17" samsher that was about 24 oz even better because it could "hack" better. But what do I know; I have a tactical 2lb blacksmiths hammer in my car:D

I think I'm one of the last few Kobra fans out there. I have a 20.5" 20.5oz Amtrak kobra that sleeps by my bed with my kat and my rose. I dunno what it is about this khuk, but it feels very strong, fast, and mean. An 18" kobra wouldn't be enough for me, my 25" is too heavy, but ol' Amtrak made this one just for me.

cucharadedragon,

I think you're right, the older HI's were pointier and better suited.
Maybe we should just ask Yangdu to have HI make some pointy WWlls.
I'm not sure how our Kamis changed the style, but I do like the present style- my needs as backwoods companion. The little extra weight forward, instead of a taper and a sharper point, probably chops better.

the Sher Attitude at 18" and 22 ounces is worth a look. Non traditional, has the desired point and light weight, works well too, and the handle is substancial without being fat, and has the pronounced belling at the buttcap which aids retention. Some of the other khuks with the pronounce bell handle are also rather slender for my average sized hand.

if the fight is with my wife, i need one strong enough to cut through any impediment and get away from the Lions roar.

on the other hand I wouldn't have to explain hacking a man who went at me with a tire iron. But bigger than sh*t, if I put a khuk under the front seat of the car I'll probably be looking for confrontations.

does anyone ever win a khuk fight?

I saw Kung Fu Hustle today. Very funny movie.

It should have just the opposite effect. You should be calmer, and much less willing to get in a scrape because you know how serious a decision to defend your life is.

I had my tongue in cheek. I have to use those smileys more. I'm more likely to be confronted by a gun in these parts. the wrong sort of glance around here can get a person in trouble. I actually mind my own business when driving and let the big Kahuna be my co-pilot. I don't own a gun but I think I'd rather have one now than any bladed weapon. I carried a Spyderco Police model in NYC for 10 years knowing that a trip to the Tombs of Rikers Island would be my reward if caught.

I keep going back to my Gelbu Special for knife katas. Something about it . . .

I find my Mallas a tad too heavy, and my Siru is just fine, but the Gelbu just WORKS better.
