I am lookin at buying a folder to fill a fixed blade role. Long story short, I am wondering if anyone has an Ultimate hunter and an SR1. If you do, which would you recommend and why?

It really depends on how much weight & size you wanna handle. They are both similar and the only difference is that SR1 is a bit thicker, larger and heavier duty.
For me, i prefer Ultimate Hunter because SR1 is too big & heavy for me to EDC. But if you don't mind the size & weight then SR1 is probably ur ultimate hard use folder you can find for less than $200

I have both but have used the SR1 very little. The Ultimate Hunter has a 1/2 inch shorter blade. and is 2 1/2 oz lighter. The grind is much thinner and makes for an excellent slicer considering the thickness and strength of the blade. Based on observations the Ultimate Hunter is a good mix of size and strength and excellent blade steel with great ergonomics. It s a bit like a smaller, cheaper 4 Max.
The Sr1 is great knife for heavy use, but the Ultimate Hunter may be more useful. If I had to keep one, the Ultimate Hunter would be it. Few tasks require a knife stronger than the UH.

I have/had both.

Get the SR1

My Ultimate hunter would wreck the Teflon washers. The tang was so small, that the washers over lapped into the Triad area. So the tooth of the rocker lock would come into contact.

It was going to get relegated to the drawer of no return, but my oldest son liked it, so I gave it to him.

The SR1 I’ve nothing bad to say about it.

Besides, if you like the SRK, then the SR1 will win your heart.

Surprised to header that the Teflon washers is the deal breaker. The first thing that i do with every new CS folder is to remove the extra paper-thin teflon washers, which you don't need at all. Your knife may feel less smooth after removing it, but trust me overtime it will become much smoother with just the phosphor bronze washers after it breaks in. My ultimate hunter with the teflon removed still drops shut even after i cranked the pivot tight(another reason why i remove the teflon washer, cause i usually destroy it with tight pivot).

I ve used my UH a fair amount and haven t encountered any trouble yet with the pivot or function in general. What kind of problem did you get that made you discover the teflon washer damage?
Interesting post from hkyew about removing the teflon washers to make the knife function better. I saw a similar post with a youtube video on disassembly of the UH. Apparently, at least a few people remove these teflon washers which makes their knives function better, at least short term.
I must admit, I don t disassemble my knives for cleaning. But if I did, I would probably leave the teflon, figuring that Demko had a reason for putting them there.
I still think it was a nice knife to give to your son! All I ve given my son is a Griptilian. And an Endura to my son in law.

The action started getting stiff and choppy. Closed you could see the Teflon stretching, and hanging into the mortise.

I love my Ultimate Hunter, I think its fantastic. Closest to a fixed blade handle in a folder I've gotten to use.

I got the Ultimate Hunter in the mail today. It’s great! Stropped the edge a bit and got it razor sharp. The only thing I don’t care for is how much pocket room it takes up! That handle is big! Very comfortable handle and smooth action, I am impressed so far.

I still need that SR1 though....

I really like the UH and have been carrying one daily for a few months. I thinned the blade and did the Tip mod which has made it much better for edc. The factory tip was too blunt to stab through thin plastic so I had to fix that. The tip mod actually reduces the amount of room taken in the pocket too so it actually helped in a few ways.

I also sanded the top edges on the handle, I found they created really bad hot spots with heavy work so a little 320 grit sandpaper to round them like the bottom made it perfect.

Overall, a great knife that I use very hard and it only asks for more.
