I've recently have came across some of the best sheath makers for my knives. Firstly let me start with Kydex sheath maker Brian from Okuden. This is probably the most heavy duty kydex sheath so far I've seen. Very solid built even the loops and the thigh tie. Knives stays inside solid. Performs really well below zero temperature.
Than I build a very good leather sheath for my same ASH 1 from Chuddy Bear. Now, when I first received the sheath, I was a bit shock as I had no idea that leather sheath could be made so rugged. Leather is not supposed to be this strong. Very well made and man it's solid. You've to have on your hand to believe it. I was so impressed that I got my Swamp rat M9 LE a sheath from Chuck also instead of Kydex.
Now, I always loved leather and kydex. But, problem is both have very good advantages and some disadvantages. Leather over time gets scratches, cuts, and stitches come off, and on wet causes all kinds of problems. This is where you feel I should have gotten a Kydex. Then when you are using kydex, it's too rigid, at very cold temperature it becomes brittle, very high temperature it becomes soft, and then there's carrying a solid plastic type material thing on your waist does not feel comfortable. Martin sheath came up with a perfect solution. Why not make a sheath with both finest materials without their disadvantages. Kydex mated with Leather. Now, that blown my mind away when I first received my Bravo 1 custom sheath from him. I carry mine the way Bear Gryll does. Even with a kydex liner, feels just like leather as leather is outside but as strong as kydex. Very unique. Here are some pics:
