How about a test, Swamp Rat battle rat vs. Busse battle mistress. I`d say they`d be evenly matched. But I wanna here what yall think.

The Battle Rat would take a spank'n!!

What kind of test? Which Battle Mistress? Why not a Rat Daddy? Send your Battle Mistress to me and I will do a series of real world tests over many, many years and get back to you in 2036.

Like a everything test. Prying, chopping, and everything else you could think of. Maybe the rat daddy would be better evenly matched with the mistress. I would say the rat would be better in some things, but overall the mistress would win. But hey, I like cheering for the underdog.

In a competition between the two, I'd normally be inclined to say that you get what you pay for. However, in this case I think that the Rat would be much closer to the performance of INFI than the cost difference would imply. The win goes to Busse, but not by a large margin.

I have tested Rats through hard use. Eventually, I will do the same with a Busse.

Thats what I say. The Busse is all out tougher. The Swamp Rat would have a higher price to toughness ratio. They say rats can flex farther and chop cinder blocks better than busses. Is this true?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say yes. But having never compared the two, myself, you can take that for what it's worth.

Another way that the Rats have the Busses beat is the weight vs usefulness ratio. Tons of pounds of INFI knives are made that never get used. So...the total usefullness of Busses, per knife, is very low. :D

:foot: Just had to go there. ;)

Allrighty you ..... you ..... Rat! :p I hate to say it, well no, but I have way more Busse users than Rats. 'Course I'm one of those ol' timers thats been around the "B" word for many years. I've seen and handled so many used Busse knives, some of the older, and rather expensive ones have been used so hard that it took me back a little.

I've dug, pried, hammered, dropped on concrete a few times:o and mistreated both Rats and Busse knives, and both only came back asking for more. that said, I've broken, chipped out, twisted, and basically ruined a lot of knives, got sick of the excuses given by some "hard use" knifemakers coughCScough etc. Found Busse knives back in 95 and basically fell in lust;) After ruining all those knives before ....... I've yet to ruin a Busse or Rat, but I aint giving up yet! though I have had to sharpen out a few knicks out of my Howler, but nails will do that on occasion, (dont tell Hound ok?:o )

imho, untill recently, I think there were a lot more users out there than safe queens. It seems that the new line has attracted the collector's interest now, but I still see a lot of users out there, just not as many abusers. Once upon a time it wasnt uncommon to see threads started with the phrase "Look what I put my Steel Heart through this time!" and more often than not it was either a tree or a brick, or a car:D

Awesome. Once I get a few Rats or Hogs I`ll put it through hell and back and be proud because they can take it and ask for more. Did you see that thread with the dog killing the boar, that was gruesome.Theres a new movie coming out this friday called Jarhead. I wanna see if it has any knife action in it. It looks awesome.

Thanks for chiming in Dwayne. Sometimes ya just have to light some fires to see who's paying attention. ;)

I know that many of the Busse collectors out there have some of their knives set aside as users. Some of those people have actually abused them -- those people have discovered why Busse knives are so amazing.

Busse and Swamp Rat make knives whose performance is outstanding -- they redefine what a knife can be used for. Finding that out for yourself is where that change in confidence come in. The thinking changes from, "No, I don't want to break my knife or void the warranty" to "Other knives couldn't have done THAT!"

What amazes me is that the people who have little money, they save and save and save and then are able to buy a Ratweiler or Camp Tramp. They immediately use the blade and then are relieved that they've made a wise investment. Whereas, people who could afford to buy twelve of every Busse blade made seem to hold those $4-500 knives as artifacts worth too much to ever use.

Those who have used their Busses know what I'm talking about. The Rats know this. I just want to encourage those who haven't used them to find out what they are missing.

My signature says it all.

Good to see knives, sheath-makers and mods going above and beyond the call of duty. :D

Thanks bro. Now go use your knife. :p ;)

Will do 360. There's plenty of work in the yard for the big, bad Rat. Just need to borrow a decent digital camera as my post would be useless without pics! ;) :D

What? You suppose to use these knives? Aren't they going to loose their value?

Sorry, I forgot, there is "value" in using a knife, I guess that is where "get your moneys worth" came from, I think you "get your moneys worth" and more, whether it is a Swamp Rat or a Busse!!!

:D

Funny thing about the Busse's and to some lesser extent Swamp Rat is that use doesnt seem to diminish the value, very little if any at all. :D I got very few of my knives in mint condition, I prefer users as it really really makes it easier to go ahead and take that first whack! ;)

It is an odd feeling taking a 450.00 knife to the wood pile, but it quickly vanishes at the first few swings.

And you'd think with the software upgrade we'd get an upgrade of the smiles!:p
