I really like how this project turned out. I've had this piece of Sandvik 13c26 for ages, and never really knew where I wanted to head with it. You don't see it used all that often in handmade knives, as it's virtual twin from Bohler, AEBL, tends to get all the press. It's a tough, simple stainless steel, and this particular piece was just over 1/8" thick. I left the mill scale on the flats to add a touch of drama, despite the fact that it's not all that crunchy, and then sabre ground the blade, adding a subtle clip at the tip, and a very western style one - the blade shape reminds me more than a little bit of the classic Kabar. That's about where the similarities end, though.
The spine and squidgey bit under the ricasso have been rounded and polished, and the primary bevels have received a clean hand-satin finish. The simple oval guard is made of carbon fiber, and has been coin-edged. The wasp-waisted coffin handle is carbon fiber in a 'frame handle' construction, with a carbon fiber pin, and then carbon fiber tsukaito over a stunning pair of sterling silver lobster menuki.
Overall length is 13", with a 5-1/4" handle length and a 7-3/4" blade length. Weight is 8-1/2 ounces.
