Ultralight Hawk?

I hope I'm not barking up the wrong tree here. I'm interested in having a hawk to take along on outings, but weight is a major concern. I would like to have one that has the head weight of a smaller ball pein hammer. I'd also like it to have a smaller hybrid style hammer with a small impact face and the ability to serve as a blunt pick for digging shallow holes. Is that possible? How about an ultralight or carbon fiber handle? Any help or links to a maker that can help would be greatly appreciated.

If you put your ear to the ground, you can hear the sound of hoofbeats. That's the sound of Vec, galloping over to fulfill all your wildest hawk dreams.

Seriously. You seem to be describing the man's products to a "t".

Thanks Ron. That looks to be almost exactly what I am looking for. All it needs is a bit of "pick" style end for digging catholes in tough, root-heavy ground while still being able to drive in small stakes. I guess that Vector is going to be my go to guy?

I will let him speak for himself. But i think so.

Well, I'll attest to Vec's hawks. Mine is 24" long with a Cold Steel Trail hawk head, with abbreviated handle. I think it weighs less than most of my knives.

I don't know of anyone that makes that kind of head that you describe (although it's very close to a design I've been cooking up). I'd ask one of the custom makers like Coal Creek Forge here on the forums to have it made to spec.

He can always put a different head on one. Like a Craig Barr, or even I suppose one from Coal Creek. Oh I just saw that you want an impact face (as described it is going to be a small face)- I would talk to Coal Creek for the head and Vec for the handle.

Okay... Thank you Coal Creek. Do you have a picture and price of the hawk head? Would vector be willing to supply a shaft for it?
