Recently I was able to participate in a passaround that John of JK Knives put on.

This model is what he calls the Ultralite Hunter. His thought behind this blade "My thoughts are that this model will work at camp chores, but be equally at home in your kitchen." I must say that John hit this description dead on! To start things off here are the specs.

Specs:
Overall length: 8 1/4"
Blade: 4" x 1/16" thick with a scandivex edge
Handle: Tan canvas micarta
Steel: O1
Weight: 3 7/8 oz

Before we get going I want to say that I haven't had a lot of experience with different grinds and sharpening, so this scandivex edge was a whole different breed to me. In the past I would just strop my blades after use and they would stay pretty sharp, and this one was no different. This is the first review I have done so if I don't make a lot of sense, forgive me. :) Sorry for the poor pictures, they were all taken with my iphone.

Lets get started!

The day I received it I started by cutting some tomatoes for a salad that evening, it performed outstanding!

That weekend my son and I decided to go for an overnighter at Blue Lake in the Gearhart wilderness area. This was his first overnight hike and he did a great job! We were planning on doing some fishing and using the knife for some fish cleaning but that never happened. I did get to make a pretty lame feather stick ( my excuse was that I was cold, and I am sticking to it! :) got a fire going and had dinner.

Once we got home it went right back to the kitchen to work on some chicken and veggies. This blade is a great slicer!

I wanted to plan another hike this weekend but with the wife being 38 weeks, I thought it was best I stayed home. I was just about ready to pack it up and send it to the next person when I decide it was time for a cup of noodles!

Doing some prep work for the fire. ( you might be asking yourself why I need a fire for a cup of noodles? because I HAVE to use the Emberlit!!)

Although I wouldn't hesitate to baton though some bigger pieces, I didn't want something to happen to the blade before I sent it out.

Some better feather sticks.

This blade can make some good curls!

The Emberlit doing what it does best!

I found another use for the ultralite! It does a fantastic job at holding the lid down on my cup of noodles!

A few pictures of a side by side of the ultralite and a BRKT Bravo.

A couple pictures of the sheath that member KYenglish made, Great Sheath!!

All in all this is a great blade and I will be getting in touch with John soon about adding one to my kit.

Please be sure to take a look at all of the other great reviews on this blade at-

It's amazing what a well made knife can do even when it's much thinner and lighter than we're used to.

I love thin steel for most of what I do and it's sure hard to beat John's knives in the woods.

Your absolutely right! It was such a joy to pack this great blade around! Can't wait to pick up one of John's knives.

Just ordered one with a slightly larger blade.
Johns work is AWESOME. Love all my knifes from him.
Hes easy to deal with, can make the demands of the customer and his turn around time is quick.
JK Knives ROCK!!!

daniel4572, will you please post pics of the knife when you get it? Would love to see it.

Hey JK, maybe it's just me but I can't see your picture, can you send me a link, I would love to see it in olive canvas micarta! Thanks

Thin knives work very well. This is one reason why Mora knives are so popular. UL, less cost and they cut great. Nice to see a higher quality thin blade.
